대학 신입생의 학업중단 예측요인 분석

국문 초록

본 연구는 대학 신입생들의 학업중단 의도를 예측할 수 있는 요인의 영향을 분석하고자 A대학교 신입생 1,806명을 대상으로 학업중단 예측도에 따른 학업중단 의도를 확인하였다. 연구결과 첫째, 학업중단 예측 하위요인별로 기술통계 결과는, 대학만족도>전공적성 및 진로부합도>가정환경 경제수준>대학생활 적응도>학업적 자기효능감>전공의 취업전망도>교수와의 상호작용 순이었고, 학업중단 의도에 대한 하위문항별로 휴학 및 자퇴 고려>학업지속 의도없음>편입고려 순으로 나타났다. 둘째, 개인특성에 따른 학업중단 의도 차이를 분산분석을 통해 살펴보면, 전체적 학업중단 의도는 전공계열과 고교유형에 따른 차이가 있었고, 성별과 경제적 수준에 따른 차이는 없었다. 구체적으로, ‘휴학 및 자퇴 등의 학업중단 고려’에 영향을 주는 개인특성으로는 전공계열과 경제적 수준, ‘편입 고려’에 영향을 주는 개인특성으로는 전공계열과 고교유형, ‘졸업의도 없음’에 영향을 주는 개인특성으로는 성별과 전공계열이 있었다. 셋째, 학업중단 의도를 예측하는 요인을 확인하기 위해 회귀분석한 결과는, 대학만족도>가정환경 경제수준>학업적 자기효능감>전공적성 및 진로부합도 순으로 예측정도가 높았다. 본 연구는 수도권 소재 4년제 대학 신입생을 대상으로 보다 종합적이고 체계적으로 접근하기 위해 구성화된 학업중단 예측척도를 적용하여 근거를 제시함으로써 신입생들의 학업중단을 예방하기 위한 기초자료를 제시하였다는 것에 의의가 있다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to analyze the influence of factors that can predict the intention of college freshmen to dropout. The results are as follows. First, the sub-factors for predicting school dropout were in order: college satisfaction > major aptitude and career suitability > home environment economic level > college life adaptation > academic self-efficacy > job prospects of major > interaction with professor. The dropout intentions were in order: leave of absence and withdrawal > no intention to continue education > consideration for transfer. Second, there were differences in dropout intentions according to individual characteristics by major and high school type, and there were no differences by gender and economic-level. Specifically, ‘Leave of absence’ and ‘dropout’ are considered differently by major or economic-level. ‘Transfer is considered differently by major and high school type. No intention to dropout is considered differently by major and high school type. Third, the factors for predicting school dropout were in order: college satisfaction > home environment economic level > academic self-efficacy > major aptitude and career suitability. This study was intended to take a more comprehensive and systematic approach to freshmen at a four-year university located in the metropolitan area. For this purpose, the evidence was presented by applying the constructed academic dropout prediction scale. It is significant in that it presented basic data to prevent academic dropouts of college freshmen.
