국문 초록

이 글은 담촌의 판소리 연구 내용을 톺아보고, 그것을 포스트고전서사학적 방법론을 기반으로 어떻게 계승·확장할 수 있을지 생각해보는 것을 목적으로 한다. 담촌은 판소리를 ‘사설이 지향하는 의미와 그에 걸맞은 악조 장단으로 판을 짜서 부르는 공연서사시’로 정의하여 판소리를 구비문학의 중요한 장르 범주 중 하나로 위치시켰으며, 다양한 요소가 한데 어우러져 구성되는 ‘공연물’로 바라보았다. 특히 구비공식구이론(oral formula theory)을 주요하게 활용하여 판소리 기원론과 판소리 창자의 작시전략에 대해 구체적인 연구를 전개했다. 문학 창작의 보편적 법칙이나 원리의 규명이 아니라, 오히려 그 반대에 있는 문학 수용의 개별적 현상에 주목하는 포스트고전서사학적 접근은 ‘작가에서 독자로, 언어에서 언어를 넘어, 서사에서 서사화’로 연구 관점의 이동을 수반한다. 이에 따라 기존에 ‘시인’의 판짜기전략이었던 구비공식구이론은 ‘독자’의 텍스트 해석에 기여하는 인지 틀로 새롭게 조명될 수 있고, ‘언어의 군집’으로서가 아니라 언어를 넘어선 정서나 기억 등의 비언어적 의미자질들의 통합으로서 재발견된다. 이를 통해 종합예술로서 판소리가 제시하는 사설, 음악, 극적 요소들이 서로 어떻게 관계되어 ‘서사화’되는지를 조명할 수 있다. 포스트고전서사학은 결코 고전서사학을 부정하거나 그것과 단절적으로 학문의 영역을 구축하고자 하는 움직임이 아니다. 오히려 고전서사학의 성과를 이어나간 가운데, 그것이 미처 스포트라이트를 비추지 못했던 소외된 연구대상을 발굴하여 담론의 중심으로 끌어내고자 하는 고전서사학의 실천적 성격의 학문이라 할 수 있다. 서사학적 패러다임 교체가 이루어진지 한 세대가 되어 가는 시점에 서사연구의 지형도 하에 판소리 연구의 현주소를 찾아보고, 동시에 우리 문학의 특수성 또한 잘 해명할 수 있는 새로운 연구방법에 대해 생각해보는 기회가 될 수 있기를 바란다.

영문 초록

Damchon Seo Dae-seok examined the origin and composition strategy of Pansori utilizing oral formula theory. This study examines the performance of Damchon from the perspective of post-classical narratology and how it can be sustained. Post-classical narratology does not attempt to define universal rules or theories of literary creation, but rather focuses on the unique and individual phenomena of literary reception. This approach entails a research perspective that shifts from not only author to reader and verbal communication to nonverbal communication, but also from narrative to narrativization. Supported by this, first, Damchon utilized oral formula theory as the composition strategy of a poet, but it can be newly viewed as a cognitive frame that contributes to a reader’s interpretation of the text. Second, oral formula theory is not simply a collection of languages, but is where non-linguistic semantic features such as sentiment and memories are integrated. Finally, we can surpass the study of pansori script (novel) and focus on how the script (novel), music, and theatrical elements interact and are narrativized together. Post-classical narratology is not a movement that denies or completely breaks away from classical narratology. It is a continuation of the feats of classical narratology while also being a practical field of study that sheds light on previously neglected objects of study and brings them to the center of the discourse. Through post-classical narratology, the study of pansori can now direct its attention to how text receptors imagine, understand, and express perceived images. Moreover, further research topics can be discovered that better understand the border between our body, language, culture and text.
