서울지역 대학생의 자발적 졸업연기에 대한 질적 연구

국문 초록

이 연구의 목적은 서울지역 대학생들의 졸업연기의 맥락을 이해하는 것에 있다. 이를 위해 졸업연기의 맥락을 크게 졸업연기 방법, 졸업연기 이유, 졸업연기에 대한 인식의 3가지로 구분하여 탐색하였다. 졸업을 연기한 서울지역 대학생 10명의 면담자료에 대해 현상학적 분석을 실시하여 도출한 주요 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 졸업연기 방법은 졸업에 필요한 최저이수학점을 이수하지 않는 것, 졸업필수서류를 제출하지 않는 것, 졸업유예제도를 활용하는 것, 학기 중에 휴학하는 것으로 구분할 수 있었다. 둘째, 졸업연기의 이유는 졸업 후 삶에 대한 개인적인 기대를 충족하기 위해서인 경우도 있었지만, 안정적인 일자리 또는 발전 가능성 있는 일자리에서 사회생활을 시작하거나 취업에 필요한 준비가 부족하다고 인식하여 졸업을 연기하기도 하였다. 또한 진로에 대한 고민이 있어 졸업을 연기하거나 대학재학생 신분이 취업에 유리하기 때문에 졸업을 연기하는 경우도 있었다. 셋째, 졸업연기에 대한 인식은 졸업을 연기하기로 선택한 것에 대해 후회가 있다는 것과 주변사람들에 대한 미안함, 미래를 위해서 어쩔 수 없는 선택이라는 생각, 졸업연기는 기회이며 합리적인 선택이라는 생각, 자신을 이해하는 데 도움이 된다는 생각 등으로 구성되어 있었다.본 연구에서는 이러한 연구 결과를 바탕으로 대학생들의 진로 교육 및 정책적 제언을 위한 시사점을 제언하였다. 이 연구는 실제로 졸업을 연기한 경험이 있는 대학생들에 대한 심층면담을 통해 졸업연기의 맥락에 대해 이해하는 것에 초점을 두었으며, 특히 서울지역의 대학생들의 졸업연기를 이해하는 데 의미있는 자료가 될 것으로 예상된다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to understand the context why undergraduates in seoul delay graduation. To achieve the purpose of this study, we classified the context of delay of graduation as three categories; types, reasons and perception of delayed graduation. After we conducted the phenomenological analysis about the interview of 10 undergraduates in seoul who delayed graduation, we could draw the conclusion as below. Firstly, types of delay of graduation can be classified into (1) not to complete minimum credits to graduate, (2) not to hand in some of vital documents required to graduate, (3) to take a leave of absence during semester. Secondly, we could affirm that the reasons of delayed graduation can be classified into (1) that those who delayed graduation want to prepare to satisfy one`s own expectation, (2) get a better first job, (3) need time to improve their competencies required to get a job, (4) have thought that enrolled undergraduates have more advantage than graduates. Thirdly, we investigated 10 students who delayed graduation for knowing what they perceived about the delayed graduation. They thought the delayed graduation as (1) regrets about the choice they made, (2) feeling sorry for surrounding people, (3) thought that they have no choice except delayed graduation, (4) the chance for future and rational thinking, (5) it was helpful to understand themselves. Considering the result of this study, we have some suggestion for undergraduates’ career education and policy. This study focused on understanding about the context of delayed graduation through interviewing those who actually delays their graduation. Especially, this study would be meaningful founding to understand undergraduates’ delayed graduation in seoul.
