진경산수화의 해석에 대한 고찰

국문 초록

오늘날 진경산수화는 더 이상 미술사적인 개념이나 박물관 전시대 안의 유물로 존재하지 않는다. 많은 예술가들이 진경산수 화법을 계승하여 오늘날의 산천을 묘사하고 있다. 또한 정선(鄭敾)으로 대표되는 조선 후기 진경산수화는 각종 기념전이나 기획전, 화보나 대중매체 등을 통해서 널리 알려지면서 대중적으로 매우 친숙하게 되었다. 그러나 다양한 연령층들이 여러 경로를 통해서 진경산수화를 접하게 되었으나, 정작 진경산수화에 대한 이해는 단지 ‘조선후기에 그린 실경산수화’ 정도로 그치고 있다. 특히 초·중등 미술교육에서 진경산수화는 조선시대 회화의 고유색을 대표하기에 매우 빈번하게 다루어짐에도 불구하고, 면밀한 고찰이 이루어지지 않은 상태에서 피상적인 미술사 정보만을 제공하는 경우가 많다. 이에 본고에서는 지금까지 진경산수화에 대해서 다양한 해석과 이로 인해 생겨나는 쟁점들을 비교·고찰하여, 우리가 일반적으로 인식했던 진경산수화의 개념이나 가치에 대해서 다시 한 번 살펴봄으로서 전통미술교육에서 진경산수화의 의미를 보다 분명히 하고자 한다. 이를 위해 진경산수화에 대한 의미와 사상적 배경에 대하여 고찰하였으며, 또한 정선의 진경산수화풍에 대한 해석의 차이를 쟁점화하여 비교·분석함으로써 정선의 진경산수화가 중국 화풍의 영향에서 벗어나, 우리 회화의 독자성과 예술성을 겸비한 시대적 성과임을 다시 한 번 증명하였다.

영문 초록

Today, Jinkyung(眞景) landscape paintings do not exist just as an aesthetic concept in the history of art or an art piece displayed in a museum. The styles of Jinkyung landscape paintings were succeeded by many artists, and we still see Jinkyung landscape paintings which were painted by the contemporary artists. Jinkyung landscape paintings of the late Chosun Dynasty including outstanding pieces painted by ‘Jeongsun(鄭敾)’ has become well known through commemorative exhibitions, special displays, prints and media. While many people in different generations learned more about Jinkyung landscape paintings through various routes, many of them understand and take the paintings just as ‘realistic landscape paintings which were completed in the late Chosun Dynasty’. Elementary and middle school students often see Jinkyung landscape paintings from their textbooks since the paintings represent the characteristic colors of the paintings in Chosun Dynasty. However, most of the books provide students only the historical background of the paintings without detailed description about them. Thus, I attempted to reconsider the concepts and the value of the general Jinkyung landscape paintings by comparing and examining the key points in understanding and appreciating the paintings. For the purpose, I compared and analyzed definitions of the concepts, values, and backgrounds of Jinkyung landscape paintings, which are understood and accepted by art historians. And I examined the Jinkyung landscape paintings painted by Jeongsun not only to compare some key points, but also to draw conclusions which may be closer to the truth.
