국문 초록

지금까지 학교교육에서 캐릭터 교육은 캐릭터 자체의 이해나 감상보다는 캐릭터를 활용한 표현활동에 머물러 있어 캐릭터에 대한 본질적 이해 및 캐릭터를 비판적으로 감상하고 수용하는 교육에 대한 연구는 미비한 실정이었다. 이러한 접근 방식은 다른 영역에서의 미술교육과 마찬가지로 캐릭터 교육 또한 표현 양식이나 창의성 개발을 위한 편협한 시각에서 미술을 보고 조형적 형식주의에 머물러 접근되어졌기 때문일 것이다. 미술은 더 이상 우리에게 모더니즘에서 이해하는 작가의 창조물로서의 작품에 국한되는 것이 아니라, 생활 전반에 퍼져 있는 시각적 감각이 반영된 다양한 대상과 현상으로 다가오고 있으며, 우리는 이를 통하여 소통하며 살아가고 있다. 따라서 시각문화의 영향력이 지대한 현대의 위치에서 미술교육이 경쟁력 있는 교과로 서기 위해서는 오늘날의 시각문화를 보다 올바르게 이해하고 비판적으로 수용하며 이를 통하여 주체적으로 향유할 수 있는 역량을 길러 주어야 한다. 캐릭터는 일상생활 속의 다양한 시각문화 중에서 아동들이 가장 흔하게 접하고 있고 그들의 삶에 지대한 영향을 주고 있는 시각매체이기 때문에, 본 연구에서는 미술교육에서 캐릭터 교육의 필요성을 고찰해 보는 것을 목적으로 한다. 캐릭터의 개념과 특징 및 종류, 캐릭터 교육의 필요성을 미술교육의 본질적 요구, 사회적 요구, 학습자의 입장을 중심으로 한 이론적 기초연구에 한정하여 살펴보고자 한다. 하지만 본 연구의 최종적인 목표는 아동들이 일상생활 속에서 다양한 캐릭터를 올바르게 이해하며 이를 비판적으로 수용할 수 있는 능력 함양을 위한 교수·학습프로그램의 개발에 있다. 본 연구는 이를 위한 이론적 기초자료가 될 것이다.

영문 초록

There are few studies conducted with regard to an education which brings out students intensive understandings of characters, and fosters them to appreciate and adopt the characters more critically due to the limitations of current character education in school which only emphasizes on the expression activity using the characters. This type of approach has been made from a formalism with narrow points of view that believes a character education is a just way to teach styles of expression or developing creativity, which is also performed in art education from other domains. Art not only is a creature of artist as it is recognized by modernism but also is realized as many different targets and phenomenons derived from people s visual sense in a daily life, and people communicate each other through the art. Hence this current situation under a massive impact of visual culture, in order to make art subjects more competitive, needs art education to help learners understand a visual culture and adopt it with a critical eye, and eventually to facilitate learners ability to independently participate in art appreciation. This study aims to discuss the necessity of character education in art education, because it is believed that a character is a common object among many other visual materials to students and a great matter of interest in their life. This examines the concept, trait, and diversity of character, including the needs of character education, which is limited to a theoretically basic research focusing on the essential needs of art education, social needs, and learner s dimension. However, the ultimate objective of this study is to develop a teaching learning program in order to foster students understanding of characters and critical ability to enjoy them. This study is to be a fundamental resource to achieve this goal
