국문 초록

본 논문은 ‘자기 고백예술’이라는 새로운 장르를 미술사 속에 만들어낸 루이즈 부르주아(Louise Bourgeois, 1911-2010)의 작품세계를 오브제의 상징성을 통해 이해하는 미술교육과 감상에 대한 연구이다. 현대미술에서 하나의 공통된 형식이나 전통적정의 및 개념들은 1960년대 포스트모더니즘 이후 해체되어 개인의 개성과 창의성을존중하는 다원적인 양상으로 펼쳐져 왔다. 이러한 현대미술의 큰 조류를 미술교육과정속에서 감상교육으로 이해하고, 향수하기 위해서는 미술교육적인 방법 또한 다양한 방식으로 전개되어 교육현장에서 선택의 범위가 확장되어야 할 것이다. 본 논문은 자신의 자전적 이야기를 미술작품 속에 담아낸 현대미술의 거장 루이즈 부르주아의 작품을미술교육적인 측면에서 이해하고 향수하는 방법을 제시하여 작품의 이해뿐만 아니라미술사조와 특성, 그리고 나아가 변해가는 현대인의 감수성에 대한 미술교육적 방법에대해 살펴보고자 한다. 루이즈 부르주아는 자신의 정신적 외상을 치유하기 위하여 기억과 관련된 많은 오브제를 사용하였고, 그 오브제에 상징적인 의미를 부여하였다. 그러므로 부르주아를 미술교육과정에서 이해하기 위한 방법으로 작가의 자기고백적인이야기의 이해와 이를 통해 오브제에 부여되는 상징성을 고찰하고 그 상징성을 통한미술교육과 감상 방법을 고찰하고자 한다.

영문 초록

This article inquires into the art education and appreciation through the symbolisms of art objects by examining works by Louise Bourgeois(1911-2010) who invented the art category called ‘confessional art’. Contemporary artists tend not to adhere to an independent art form and are willing to defy the conventional definitions of art concepts or forms while reflecting the plural environment of the contemporary art scene which attaches emphasis to individuals creativities and idiosyncrasies. One s understanding and appreciation of these circumstances in which contemporary artistic endeavorsunfold themselves requires the development of various methods of art education, which would lead to the extension of the range of choice in the practices of art education. In this aspect, this article will propose ways to understand and enjoy the works ofLouise Bourgeois who established a new artistic tendency of confessional art from an art educational perspective in order to grope for diverse methods of art education through which one can be helped to understand various artistic tendencies and their characteristics and further the ever-changing sentiments of the moderns as well as significances and meanings of works of art. This article attempts to suggest the art educational methods to understand the art of Louise Bourgeois, one of the most influential artists of today who explored her own artistic mode by creating an art form called ‘confessional art’. Having been registered in the art history as the pioneer of Cubism,Pablo Picasso has been one of the artists whose works are being necessarily studied and discussed in the art educational scene. Similarly, one needs to look into the art of Bourgeois in order to understand the cultural development of the 20th century. In this regard, an examination of her art needs to be included in art educational practices. Therefore, this article intends to interpret the meanings of Bourgeois s works and the ideas embodied by them by approaching her art objects one at a time so that her works can be utilized in the practices of art education for elementary school students, since by doing so the article demonstrates that each individual art object with a certain symbolic meaning functions as a sign, and hence each art object as a sign can contribute to the provision of certain criteria of interpretation for viewers. Bourgeois used a wide range of objects that were related to her memories and imbued them with symbolic meanings for the treatment of her psychological traumas. This is why this article aims to understand Louise Bourgeois by looking into the artist s autobiographical stories through which the symbolisms of such objects can be comprehended and further to examine the methods of art education and appreciation through those symbolisms.
