국문 초록

우리나라 미술과 교육과정의 내용 영역은 체험, 표현, 감상으로 구분된다. 이 가운데 표현은 어린이의 총체적 체험에 대한 구체적 발현으로 자기 스스로를 이해하는 단초이자 타인과의 소통의 발판이라 할 수 있다. 이 연구에서는 표현 영역의 목표로서 자리잡아온 ‘창의적 표현 능력’의 교육과정 상의 변화 과정을 살펴보고 창의성과 표현 능력의 관계 속에서 문제점을 분석하여 목표로서의 타당성을 점검하였다. 이는 미술과 교육과정이 현장의 미술교육을 발전적으로 견인하지 못하고 있다는 현실인식을 바탕으로 그 원인의 하나로서 교육목표의 문제를 지적하고자함이다. 미술과 교육과정의 개정과정 속에서 창의성과 표현 능력은 결합과 분리를 반복하였으며 창의적 표현 능력은 이 두 개념의 합성어임을 확인하였다. 앞으로 미술교육의 목표는 실제 교육현장에서 기를 수 있는 능력으로서의 구체성을 고려하여 창의성 보다는 표현 능력을 중심으로 미술과의 특성을 반영하여 설정할 필요가 있음을 제언하였다.

영문 초록

This paper aims first to investigate how the concept of the ability of creative expressions has been used and become the achievement objectives in the art curriculum in Korea. Then it examines the validity of the objectives by analyzing some problems caused by the relationship between creativity and ability of expression. It was assumed that the achievement objectives of the curriculum might be one major factor that hindered productive development of art education in school settings. It is found that in the course of revisions of the art curriculum the two concepts of creativity and expressive ability have been used together or apart depending on what is emphasized. Now it is again when the two concepts are joined together to stress creativity. It is argued that in setting the objectives for art education we should consider the ability that can be cultivated and developed via school education, therefore, putting priority on expressiveness rather than on creativity . It is also suggested that improved confidence in expressing one s own experiences will stimulate and lead to the embodiment of artistic creativity.
