국문 초록

초등교사 양성 과정에서 제공되는 도덕교육 프로그램은 도덕수업을 잘하는 교사, 도덕교과를 잘 가르치는 교사를 기르는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이 점에서 도덕교육 프로그램은 도덕교육 실제의 요구를 충실하게 반영하여야 할 필요는 것으로 간주된다. ‘도덕교육 실제의 요구’를 확인하는 데에 있어서 대체로 사람들은 경험적, 과학적 조사 방법을 동원하는 경향이 있다. 그러나 그렇게 하여 확인된 것은 도덕교육 실제의 ‘진짜 요구’가 아니라 ‘가짜 요구’이다. 도덕교육 실제의 ‘진짜 요구’는 성리학의 교육이론에서 확인할 수 있다. 성리학의 교육이론에 의하면, 도덕교육 실제의 ‘진짜 요구’는 우리의 마음을 크고 아름다운 것으로 만드는 것, 한 마디로 말하여 심성함양이라고 말할 수 있다. 이 요구를 따르자면, 도덕교육 프로그램을 담당하는 교사는 그가 심성을 함양하는 일을 업으로 삼고 있는 사람이라는 바로 그 점에서 교사이며, 학생은 그의 삶을 배움으로써 심성함양의 대열에 합류하게 된다.

영문 초록

The morals education program provided in the training course for the applicants for elementary school teaching position is aimed at raising the teachers who are skilled at morals instruction and who teach morals subject well. Therefore, it is often regarded that the morals education program reflect fully the actual demand of morals education practice. In affirming the actual demand of morals education practice, people tend to employ the investigative methods that are empirical and scientific. However, what have been thereby affirmed are not in effect the authentic demand for morals education but false demand. The authentic demand for morals education can be ascertained by the educational theory of Neo-Confucianism. According to the educational theory of Neo-Confucianism, the actual authentic demand for morals education is to expand our minds and make our minds beautiful, in a word, to cultivate our minds. According to such a demand, the teacher in charge of morals education program is by definition a person whose life-time mission is to cultivate his or her students minds; and students participate in the progress of cultivating minds by emulating the lives of such a teacher.
