국문 초록

이 논문의 목적은 타오싱즈 아동교육론의 특징을 밝히는 데 있다. 타오싱즈는 육재교육(育才敎育)을 통해서 듀이와 왕양명과 구별되는 자신의 아동교육론을 제시한다. 이는 1.아동의 역량, 2.학생과 교사의 역할, 3.교육의 목적 등에서 발견할 수 있다. 듀이는 아동을 미성숙한 존재로 규정한다. 그리고 교사는 미성숙한 아동을 성숙시켜나가는 역할을 하는 존재이다. 따라서 교육은 성숙화의 과정이라고 할 수 있다. 왕양명은 아동이든 교사든 양지를 가진 존재로 본질적으로 동일하다고 주장한다. 그렇다고 하더라도 교사와 학생의 관계는 듀이와 크게 다르지 않다. 그리고 교육의 목적은 전통유학과 같이 성인이 되는 데 있다. 타오싱즈는 왕양명의 양지와 같이 타고난 아동의 역량을 인정한다. 다만 여기서 아동의 역량은 양지와 같이 본질적으로 동일한 것은 아니다. 학생마다 각기 다른 특출한 재능을 갖고 있는 것이다. 때문에 교사는 학생을 지도하기보다는 보조하는 역할을 하고, 학생들 또한 각기 서로에게 도움을 주고받으면서 발전해나가는 것이다. 이는 학생과 교사의 고정된 역할을 부정하는 것이다. 따라서 교육의 목적은 모든 국민이 자신의 역량을 발휘하여 주인이 된 삶을 살아감으로써 평등, 자유, 행복을 누리는 데 있다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is identifying the characteristics of the children education theory by Tao Xingzhi(陶行知). Tao Xingzhi suggested his own children education theory which is different from that by Dewey and Wang Yang-ming through the talented orphan selecting education system(育才敎育). This can be discovered from the capabilities of children, the roles of students and teachers, the purpose of education, and so on. Dewey defined children as immature beings. Also, teachers play the role of making children mature. Therefore, education is the process of maturity. Wang Yang-ming asserted that children and teachers alike are fundamentally the same beings of having the moral and aesthetic judgment ability inherent in humans. Nonetheless, the relationship between students and teachers is not very different from Dewey. In addition, the purpose of education is becoming a sage like the traditional Confucianism. Tao Xingzhi acknowledged the capabilities of children such as the moral and aesthetic judgment ability inherent in humans by Wang Yang-ming. However, the capabilities are not fundamentally the same like the moral and aesthetic judgment ability inherent in humans. Each and every student has one s own exceptional talent. Thus, teachers play the role of assisting students and students make progress while giving and receiving assistance with others. Isn t this denying the fixed roles of students and teachers? Therefore, the purpose of education is the people enjoying equality, freedom, and happiness while living as the master of life by exerting one s own capabilities.
