중세국어 복합조사 ‘엣’의 형성 과정에 대한 고찰

국문 초록

본고에서는 존재동사의 문법화 가능성에 기반하여 ‘NP1이 NP2에 있다’ 구성을 중심으로 통사 단위 결합체 ‘-에 # 이시/잇-(존재동사)/시-(존재보조동사)’에서 발달한 것으로 추정되는 중세국어 복합조사 ‘-엣’과 ‘-에셔’의 발달 과정을 통시적 관점에서 고찰하였다. 문법화가 일어나는 ‘통사 단위 결합체’ ‘에 # 이시/잇-(존재동사)’에서 ‘-에 이셔 > -엣’으로 발전하는 과정과 ‘-에 # 시-(존재 보조동사)’에서 ‘-에 # 시- + -어 > -에셔’로 발전하는 과정에 대해 검토하였다. 대부분의 선행 연구에서는 ‘NP1이 NP2에 있다’ 구성에서 ‘에셔’로 발달했을 가능성을 추정하였으나, 본고에서는 존재동사가 선행체언과 맺는 논항 관계와 ‘존재’, ‘소유’, ‘소재’의 의미를 통해 ‘-엣’으로 추정하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this paper is to study the development process of ‘엣’ and ‘-에셔’, a compound particles in the Middle Korean language, which are assumed to have developed from the syntactic unit combination ‘에 # 이시/잇- (existential verbs)/시- (existing auxiliary verbs)’, based on the possibility of grammaticalization of existential verbs, focusing on the composition of ‘NP1이 NP2에 있다’ from a synchronic perspective. This paper examines the development process of the syntactic unit combination where grammaticalization occurs from ‘에 # 이시/잇- (existential verbs)’ to ‘에 이셔 > -엣’ and from ‘에 # 시- (existing auxiliary verbs)’ to ‘-에 # 시- + -어 > -에셔’. Most of the previous studies estimated the possibility of developing from the composition of ‘NP1이 NP2에 있다’ to ‘에셔’. However, this paper presumes that it is not ‘에셔’ but ‘엣’ through the argument relation between existential verbs and preceding noun phrases and the meaning of ‘existence’, ‘possession’, and ‘location’.
