중·고등학생의 이공계 진로 포트폴리오 작성 경험에 관한 질적 연구

국문 초록

이 연구는 C대학의 교육기부 프로그램(outreach program)으로 진행되는 ‘이공계 진로 포트폴리오 경진대회’에 참여한 중· 고등학생들을 대상으로 이공계 진로 포트폴리오 작성 활동과 그 의미를 이해하는데 목적이 있다. 연구 참여자는 총 16명이었고, 이들을 대상으로 van Kamm(1969)의 현상학적 체험 연구 설계 방법에 따라 이공계 진로 포트폴리오 자료를 수집하고, 집단 면담을 실시하였다. 연구 결과, 원자료 117개 중에서 의미 있는 진술은 총 43개가 추출 되었고, 16개의 부주제와 10개의 주제로 범주화 되었다. 상기 연구 결과를 통해 얻은 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 이공계 분야 진로에 관심을 가지게 된 계기로 이공계 분야 교사와 전문가의 역할과 활동에 대한 존경, 학습 및 관심 분야 정보 획득을 통한 진로 방향의 확립, 우연한 계기를 통한 진로 방향의 확립, 자아성찰을 통한 진로 방향 확립으로 나타났다. 둘째, 이공계 진로 포트폴리오 작성 활동 동기로 명확하지 않았던 자신의 모습 찾기, 상급 학교 진학을 위한 집중적인 준비, 대회 참가를 통한 수상 기대감과 스펙쌓기로 나타났다. 셋째, 이공계 진로 포트폴리오 작성 활동에서 좋았던 점으로 자신에게 적합한 진로를 스스로 찾아 나서고 결정함으로서 긍정적인 감정의 강화, 또 다른 자신의 모습을 찾아나서는 의도적인 활동 등으로 나타났다. 넷째, 이공계 진로 포트폴리오 활동에서 어려웠던 점은 혼자서 해결하기 어려운 문제로 인한 걱정과 부담, 예상치 못한 결과에 따른 혼란으로 나타났다. 다섯째, 이공계 진로 포트폴리오 활동에 있어서 필요한 지원 사항으로는 분야별 다양한 사람들과의 만남을 통해 관심 분야 정보 획득, 타인을 통해 자신을 재발견하고 이를 자기화하고자 하는 노력 등으로 나타났다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this research was to understand the activities of organizing career portfolio construction in STEM. For that purpose, the study was conducted using van Kaam’s method of analysis of phenomenological data. Furthermore, 16 middle and high school students participating in “I am the future Engineer,” a career portfolio competition in the educational outreach program of C University, were interviewed in a group, and then the portfolios written by the students were gathered. According to the results of the study, 43 significant statements were extracted from 117 pieces of raw data; thus, sixteen sub-themes and ten themes were categorized from the significant statements. The findings of the research were as follows. First, the reasons for interest in the field of STEM was respect toward the teachers and professionals in STEM-related fields, interest in obtaining information through learning, career direction through an accidental occurrence, and through self-reflection on career direction. Second, the students were able to clearly find out about themselves through the motivation to perform STEM career portfolio activities and intensively prepare for higher educational institutions, and they expected to receive an award and upgrade their characteristics and qualifications through participating in the competition. Third, good points in STEM career portfolio activity were determining the proper career to seek their own self-reinforcement of positive emotions and searching for a different self through a deliberate action. Fourth, the challenges in the STEM career portfolio activity were worrying and being burdened by a problem that is hard to be solved alone, followed by the chaos of unexpected outcomes. Fifth, in terms of the STEM career portfolio activity, necessary support involved meeting people in various fields and learning information about their area of interest. In addition, this brought out an effort to reinvent oneself through others and reflected this in oneself.
