국문 초록

기억은 인간이 동물과 달리 스스로 완성시켜 나갈 수 있는 능력인 자기완성능력 즉 전승을 통한 경험 내지는 지식의 축적과 축적된 경험 및 지식의 지속적인 활용 능력에 필수불가결하다. 인간은 이러한 기억을 통해 집단의 동질성과 정체성을 형성해 나간다. 하지만 인간의 생물적 기억력에는 한계가 있기 때문에 우리는 이를 축적하고 보전하고 전수 하기 위해 다양한 표상이나 매체를 통해 지식과 경험을 저장해왔다. 즉, 인간 자신의 경험과 지식이 소멸되지 않도록 내지는 망각되지 않도록 저장하는 역할을 하는 매체의 발전은 곧 인간의 삶과 문화 전반의 발전을 가져왔으며 그에 따른 인간의 사고와 지식습득방식 및 인식방식의 변화도 초래하였다. 특히 카메라와 전자매체의 발달로 사진이나 TV영상 및 컴퓨터 영상의 발전은 과거 문자 위주의 문화적 기억 매체에서 이미지 위주의 문화적 기억 매체로의 획기적인 변화를 가져왔다. 이러한 관점에서 본 연구는 21세기 문화의 시대 를 맞이하여 문화적 담론의 일환으로서 문화적 기억과 매체 그리고 비주얼 리터러시 라는 주제로 문화적 기억에 대한 개념적 고찰과 더불어 문화적 기억과 매체의 상관관계 그리고 문화적 기억 매체의 발달과정을 비롯한 현대의 주요 문화적 기억 매체와 관련된 학습을 위한 비주얼 리터러시 교육의 필요성에 대해 역설하고자 한다.

영문 초록

Memory is absolutely indispensible for a human s self-completion, unlike the animals, which is an ability to perfection by themselves and execute a transmitted experience or accumulation of knowledge and perform a practical utilization of accumulated experience and knowledge. Human-beings establish the homogeneity and identification of group through this memory. However, we have been storing knowledges and experiences through manifold symbols or media in order to accumulate, conserve, and transmit this quality, due to the limitation of our biological memory. Development of media taking a role to store or not to expire a man s experience and knowledge motivated an improvement of human life and culture, that accordingly caused the change of human s thoughts, methods of knowledge acquisition, and recognition. In particular, the advance of photographs or TV and computer display thanks to camera and electronic media has introduced dramatic changes from the past, character-oriented cultural memory media, to the upgrade cultural memory media dominated by image. As a link of cultural discourse to welcome the era of culture in 21st century, this study therefore discusses the notion of cultural memory with a topic of cultural memory, media, and visual literacy and relations between cultural memory and media, also stresses the necessity of visual literacy education in order to approach to modem primary media of cultural memory, along with the procedure that defines a development of cultural memory media.
