共感と教育

국문 초록

今、日本の教育は、とてつもない混乱におちいっている。学力低下論に追い立てられて、「確かな学力の保証」が叫ばれ、教職の専門性を高めるための専門職大学院が作られたり、教員免許の更新制度が本格的に検討されたり、公共資金は、幼稚園から大学まで「自己評価」、「外部評価」によって配分され、低い評価の教育機関はどんどん閉鎖に追いやらる。 一方、学校では「いじめ」による子どもの自殺が相次ぎ、親の子どもへの虐待は増加の一途をたどっている。親の子殺しどころか、子の親殺しも珍しくなくなってきている今日このごろである。そういう「なげかわしい」事件が起こる度に、「もっと、教育を！」という声が高まり、「心の教育」の徹底化が求められますが、一体どういう「教育」が強化されるべきなのだろうか。もっと“詰め込み”教育を もっと道徳教育を もっと基礎訓練をこれに対し、私は、はっきりとこう提案する：今日、教育において必要なのは、共感の教育であり、共感による教育であり、共感のための教育である。子どもたちの学習意欲は下がる一方である。彼らは学習から逃走している。それは、彼らが学習することの理由や意味がわからなくなっているからである。共感はその意味や理由を与えてくれる。私たちは私たちが学ぶことによって提供できる援助や支援を待っている人たちがいるから学ぶのである。私たちは自分のために学ぶわけではない。むしろ他者の援助と支援のために学ぶのである。私たちはともに学んでくれたり、学びに協力してくれたりする共感的他者が存在するときに、学びに動機付くのである。私たちは他者や他の事物や他の社会について、それらのなかに“住み込む”ことを想像すること、すなわち、それらの世界を動きまわることの“心的シミュレーション”によってそれらを知るのである。つまり、共感はあらゆる意味での“知る”ということの基礎になっているのである。このように、共感は学習の動機付け、学習の方法、さらに学習の方向付けを与えてくれる。したがって、教育のあらゆる面において共感を導入することが、いまや落ち目になりかかっている教育の再生のために必要なのである。

영문 초록

Today, Japanese education is in a big turmoil. Academic attainment scores in international tests by PISAand TIMS have shown the declining tendencies of literacy scores of Japanese students; People claim Quality Assurance for students’ learning and a great number of graduate courses for professional skills of teaching have been established. People request that the teacher’s license should be renewed by re-evaluation of teaching career. Public funds are distributed by the competition based upon self-assessments and outer-assessments of the institutions. On the other hand, bullying at school induces more and more children’s school phobia and suicide. Child abuse by parents is increasing; sometimes, parents kill their children, and children kill their parents. Then people claim More intensive education! But, whateducation is necessary now? More cramming? More morals? More discipline? Let me propose: What we need now in education is the education of empathy, education by empathy, and education for empathy. Students’motivation for learning is getting down; they escape from leaning because they lack the meaning and significance of learning. Empathy would give the reason and meaning for learning. We learn because there are many people who are waiting for the help and support provided by our leaning. We learn not for ourselves, but for the others who need help and support. We would be motivated for learning if empathetic others jointly learn, and collaborate with us in learning. We know others, other things, other societies, and so on, by imagining ourselves dwelling in those others, things, and societies, through mental simulation of ourselves moving around the world. Thus empathy is the basis of every kind of knowing. Therefore, empathy gives the reason for learning, the way of learning, andthe direction of leaning. Thus, we must introduce empathy in every aspect of the education in order to revitalize current education in downhill.
