성인 서예학습과정의 의미 탐구 - 미메시스, 마테시스, 에우다이모니아 -

국문 초록

본 연구는 임서(臨書)하는, 전통적인 서예학습법을 익힌 성인학습자들의 예술활동 경험을 탐구한 것이다. 서예는 ‘따라 쓰기’로 시작된다는 것에 착안하여, 서예학습의 과정을 아리스토텔레스의 ‘미메시스(mimēsis), 마테시스(mathēsis), 에우다이모니아(eudaimonia)’로서 설명하고자 한다. 이 용어는 각각 ‘모방, 배움/학습, 잘삶(well-being)’을 뜻한다. 연구 결과, 미메시스 단계에서 학습자들은 붓글씨체 외에도 서예 선생님의 삶을 모방하고자 하였다. 모방을 통해 학습자들은 점차 서예에 임하는 자세와 붓글씨의 예술성을 배우는 마테시스의 단계에 들어선다. 배움의 단계에서 학습자들은 한자의 음훈(音訓)을 알고자 하며, 배우는 과정에서 붓글씨와 인문학 영역의 융합을 요구한다. 한편 학습자들은 서예학습과정에서 집중과 몰입 그리고 삶의 여유와 균형감을 가짐으로써 잘삶(well-being)의 에우다이모니아를 접하게 된다. 이 과정이 문화예술교육에 시사하는 바는 첫째, 예술교육의 모방 대상은 예술 영역 외에 강사의 삶이 포함될 수 있으므로, 가르치는 사람의 삶의 자세와 모습이 중요하다. 둘째, 예술교육이 마테시스 단계로 연결되려면 테크닉의 향상과 더불어 인문학적 지식을 컨텐츠로 활용하는 리터러시가 필요하다. 셋째, 학습자는 예술활동을 통해 몰입하고 여유를 찾게 되므로, 현대인이 잘삶(well-being)의 가치를 찾을 수 있도록 문화예술교육의 경험이 장려되어야 한다.

영문 초록

This study explored the artistic experience of adult learners who learned to copy a model of traditional calligraphy methods. Calligraphy starts with ‘to copy a model of calligraphy’, this research will explain the process of calligraphy learning as ‘mimesis, mathēsis, eudaimonia’discussed by Aristotle. Each of these terms means ‘imitation, learning, and well-being.’As a result of research, at the Mimesis stage, learners wanted to mimic the calligraphy and life of instructor who teach calligraphy. Through mimesis, the learners gradually enter the stage of mathēsis who learns the calligraphy attitude and the artistry of calligraphy. At this point, learners ask for a combination the calligraphy and the humanities. In addition, learners are exposed to eudaimonia, who has the concentration, flow, relaxation and balance while learning on the calligraphy. What this process suggests in culture and arts education, First, the object of art education can be the arts field and the instructor of arts, so the attitude of the teacher should be emphasized. Second, In addition to the improvement of technique, literacy of humanities is important for arts and culture education. Third, as learners experience flow and relaxation through artistic activities, so culture and arts education should be encouraged that people can find the value of well-being.
