의례적 학습이론에 대한 성인교육학적 고찰

국문 초록

본 논문은 학제적으로 발전해 온 의례이론이 성인교육담론에서 어떠한 이론적, 실천적, 정책적 함의를 줄 수 있는가를 밝히는 연구이다. 이러한 목적을 달성하기 위하여 본 연구는 문헌분석과 내용분석에 기초한 해석학적 연구방법을 채택하였다. 초기 의례이론이 민속학이나 종교학 담론에서 논의되면서 의례가 지니는 사회 속에서의 부정적 기능에 초점을 두었다면, 학제간으로 활발해진 의례이론들은 의례가 지니는 사회 속에서의 긍정적 측면에서 주목한다. 특히 의례는 확장된 문화개념에서 중요한 위치를 차지하고 있는데 이러한 의례가 지니는 함의는 교육학연구, 특히 성인교육연구에서도 향후 매우 중요한 가치를 지닐 수 있다고 보여진다. 우선 의례는 성인교육담론에서 부각되는 무형식학습을 설명하는 의미있는 이론적 기반을 제공한다. 왜냐하면 무형식학습은 의례 속에서 자연스럽게 습득되기 때문이다. 또한 의례는 성인교육에서 광범위하게 확산되어 있는 전환학습이론을 설명할 수 있는 중요한 이론적 기초를 공급한다. 전환은 의례와 맞닿아 있으며 전환은 의례의 변화를 수반한다. 세대간학습의 설명에 있어서도 의례는 중요한 지점을 형성한다. 즉세대공동체는 곧 의례공동체이기 때문에 세대마다의 의례가 조금씩 다르다. 일터학습에 있어서도 의례는 매우 중요한 설명력을 지닌다. 일터의 문화는 형식화된 의례에서부터 일상에서의 상호작용의례에 이르기까지 광범위한 영역 속을 움직인다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to manifest the possibilities that rituals and ritual theories developed in academia can be applied to adult education discourse and draw the theoretical, practical, and policy implications. For this purpose, this study adopted a hermeneutical research method based on literature analysis and content analysis. While the early ritual theories discussed topics in folklore or religious studies and the negative functions in ritual societies were mainly focused on, the ritual theories actively developed in interdisciplinary academia pay attention to the positive aspect that rituals bring in societies. Rituals are considered important to the concept of extended culture and the implication of these rituals seems to be very important in education research, specifically in adult education research. First, rituals provide a meaningful theoretical basis for explaining informal learning that emerges in adult education discourse in that informal learning is naturally learned in rituals. Rituals also provide an important theoretical basis for explaining transitional learning theories that have been extensively employed in adult education. Transition goes with courtesy, and transition involves changes in rituals. Even in intergenerational learning, rituals can explain important points. In other words, the generation community is a ritual community, and the rituals for each generation are slightly different. Even learning in the workplace can be well explained by rituals. The culture of the workplace ranges widely from formalized rituals to everyday rituals of interaction.
