재일(在日) 제주인의 제주지역 교육발전에 대한 공헌

국문 초록

본 연구는 재일제주인의 제주지역 교육발전에 대한 공헌을 고찰해 봄으로써, 최근 재일제주인 의 삶에 대해 중요하게 인식되는 시기에 국내 ? 외 재일한인 연구자들에게 많은 시사점을 제공해 줄 것이다. 본 연구의 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 재일제주인의 기증은 수혜를 받은 개인에게 생활 향상과 같은 경제적 도움으로 작용하기도 하고, 제주의 지역개발을 비롯한 경제발전에도 큰 역할을 하였다. 둘째, 재일제주인은 학교 부지, 교사(교실)건축을 비롯한 도서시설, 악기류, 시청각 교재, 동상 및 탑, 일반비품, 체육시설 등 교육시설에 대해 많은 관심과 지원을 아끼지 않았다. 셋째, 재일제주인은 제주지역의 인재양성을 위해 제주여자학원과 남녕학원 등 학교설립 및 육성에 대한 큰 공헌을 했다. 넷째, 재일제주 인은 교육환경의 개선을 위해 부동산 ? 시설 건축, 비품, 도서, 기념물 건립, 기금 ? 운영비 등 교육 지원 활동에 대한 많은 공헌을 했다. 다섯째, 재일제주인은 가족이나 친척뿐만 아니라 경제적으로 어려운 학생들에게 장학금을 지원하고자 많은 노력을 기울였다. 따라서 본 연구는 제주지역에 기증과 교육시설 지원, 학교발전에 대한 공헌을 통해 교육 및 인 재양성에 재일제주인의 역할이 크게 작용했다고 볼 수 있으며, 더 나아가 이들의 애향심과 제주 사회의 기증에 대한 올바른 인식을 정립해 나가는데 크게 기여할 것이다.

영문 초록

This is to study the donation for and contribution to the development of Jeju education by the Jeju people living in Japan. As the lives of Jeju people living in Japan is regarded as important as ever in the study of contemporary Jeju society, this study will indicate some implication to the scholars who study the significance of the Jeju people living in Jeju in and out of Korea. My study can be summarized as follows. First, donation of Jeju people living in Jeju brought economical benefits and improvement of their lives to the beneficiaries. Second, Jeju people living in Japan supported Jeju society with wide range of educational facilities and equipment as the school sites, construction of the school buildings, library collections, musical instruments, visual aids, statues and towers, school equipments, and gymnasium facilities. Third, they contributed to the establishment of Jeju Women s School and Nam-nyong School to educate Jeju young generation. Next, to improve educational environment of Jeju, they donated real estate, school facility and equipment, books, along with monument construction and school funds raising. Finally, they granted scholarship for the students from the low income families and support their families, too. From the study of these factors, it was revealed that their donation, support, scholarship did help Jeju society educate and develop its human resources. Also, this study will help Jeju society understand the significance of donation and support by Jeju people living in Japan.
