국문 초록

한국의 다인종적 . 다문화적 지형의 변화에 따라 ‘다문화사회’라는 용어는 중요한 언표로서 자리매김했다. 다문화사회로의 환경의 변화로 인해 발생하는 사회문제에 어떻게 대응하고 사회통합을 이룰 것인가는 국가정책의 중요 아젠다가 되었다. 그러나 다문화적 사회정책은 국가의 현실적 이해관계에 따라 마련이 되며 또한 추진 동력을 얻을 수 있다. 한국의 다문화사회는 서구 다문화사회와의 이론과 현실에서 어떠한 차이가 있는 가를 고찰해보는 것이 이 연구의 목적이 다. 이를 위해 한국의 다문화사회를 특징지을 수 있도록 정책지향과 현실유형을 분류하여 4가지로 유형회를 시도하였다. 이 결과 정책 측면에서는 비교적 국가정책의 통합성이나 시민사회 차원의 의식수준은 모두 높게 나타났다. 그러나 현실에서의 다문화정책의 여러 가지 한계와 문제점 역시 다양하게 노출되었다. 따라서 연구 분석틀의 4분면에 입각하여 해석하면 우리사회의 다문화적 유형은 •발전적 다문화사회’에 해당한다는 결론에 도달 하였다.

영문 초록

This study inquires some controversial problems of multiculturalism in Korea for instance the concept of multicultural society and the charcteristics of it in Korea, the concept of culture is very important for the formation and expansion of a collective identity in a modern national society. All concepts of identity are a means of producing internal uniformity and external otherness and differences, thus how the multicultural society could identified is very important. Since the year of 2000，Korean Society has became more complexed in its racial map this change happened so quickly due to the emerging of the migranted foreigne workers and the internationally married migranted women. If this trend continues one can expect the figure to pass the 1,5 million mark in the near future, as a result of this demographical social change, Korea is now called what so called multicultural Society Which gave a lot controversial cause though. This study tried to review two fields one is the government s foreigner policy and the other is attitude of korean people to foreigner thus how these two can combined as a one type of multicultural society and if so compare to other advanced multicultural countries how Korean multicultural society classifying its type is the main question of this study. As a result of this study we came to the conclusion that the multicultural policies performed in now aim at adaptation and assimilation to our society, so that they do not coincide with genuine multiculturalism with the attitude of ordinary people, that gives us the idea that Korean multicultural society could identified as a developing multicultural society. Another finding is that we need to prepared to the incoming future of more solid multicultural society in diverse field.
