영문 초록

Increases in emergency use, and shortages of nurses have contributed to overa-owding of emergency department. Triage is the process by which patients are assessed upon their arrival at the health care facility to determine the appropriate health care resource. The purpose of this study was to assess the patient who visited the emergency department of hospital, with triage tool and to compare the accuracy cfassifying triage of emergency room nurses. 1,700 patients older than 15 years were investigated. Investigation had been performed for 20 days from september 1 to september 20, 2004. The triage tool was developed through the modification of triage tools developed by Lee In Sook(1998). All the data were analyzed by SAS-pc program by using the methods of mean, frequency and percentage and i-test. The results were as follows : 1. Male(57.2%) were more than female(42.8%) and mean age of patients were 49.9 years. Destribution of the reasons of visiting ER, the most were because of diseases (78.7%). 2. Chief complaints were abdominal pain(16.4%) and problems in digestive system 14.7%). 3. Classifying triage of emergency room nurse had significant relationship with results of emergency care. 4. Classifying triage by triage tool had significant relationships with results of emergency care. 5. Classifying triage of emergency room nurses had accuracy in correct triage was 78.4%, over triage was 14.2%, under triage was 7.5%. 6. Average length of stay was 8.9 hours and classifying triage of triage tool had significant relationships with length of stay. This study depicted that classifying with triage of patients, the outcome of emergency care of patient could be anticipated and this could be decreased under triage rate and provide baseline data in determining the priority of emergency nursing.
