영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to explore Korean working mothers’ experiences with flexible workplace arrangements with a phenomenological approach. The research purpose was how married female employees with a child/children experience and perceive flexible workplace arrangements. As a result of the findings, the participants reported mixed experiences: positive experiences and challenges. The first superordinate theme, positive experience, was explicated in six categories: a) the benefit of childcare, b) less stress at both work and home, c) the increase of job satisfaction, d) the pleasure of autonomy to control work schedules, e) career continuity, and f) hope for the new organizational practice. The second superordinate theme, challenges, had four categories: a) different challenges by types of FWA, b) challenges due to different organizational culture, c) limited opportunity of FWA due to job characteristics, and d) limited FWA options. Findings from this phenomenological study provided valuable insights and practical implications regarding how to promote the FWA practice in the Korean context, and ultimately improve the quality of the professional career women’s lives.
