역량중심 교육과정의 핵심요소가 중학생의 역량에 미치는 영향 분석

국문 초록

이 연구는 역량중심 교육과정의 핵심요소들, 즉, 학생참여형 수업, 교과내용의 의미 내면화, 과정중심평가, 그리고 평가 및 피드백이 중학생의 역량에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 탐색하는 데 주된 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 한국교육개발원에서 2017년에 수집한 KEDI 학생역량 조사 자료 중에서 전국의 55개 중학교에 재학 중인 3학년 2,769명의 자료를 활용하였으며, 개정 교육과정에서 명시한 6가지 핵심역량을 종합하여 산출한 역량지수를 종속변수로 하여 2수준 다층분석을 실시하였다. 주요 연구결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 기초모형 분석결과, 중학생 역량은 학생수준의 특성들이 94.9%를 설명하는 것으로 나타나 역량중심 교육의 핵심적인 주체가 학생임을 확인할 수 있다. 둘째, 최종모형 분석결과, 학생과 학교수준의 배경변수 중에서는 여학생, 신체적 및 심리적 건강상태, 주관적 학업성취 수준, 부모의 지원적 양육태도, 교사의 1인당 학생 수가 중학생의 역량에 정적 영향을 미치고 있었다. 그리고 학생과 학교수준의 과정변수 중에서는 친구와의 관계, 체험활동과 자치활동, 독서, 예술, 체육 활동, 수업방법(구조화된 수업, 협동학습)의 정적 영향을 확인할 수 있었다. 뿐만 아니라 역량중심 교육과정의 핵심요소라고 할 수 있는 학생 참여형 수업과, 교과내용의 내면화, 과정중심평가 역시 중학생의 역량에 정적 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과들은 학생들이 학습의 의미를 스스로 찾고 주도적으로 학습활동에 참여할 수 있도록 지원하는 방향으로 교육과정을 운영하는 것이 중학생의 역량을 증진하는 데 핵심적인 요인이 될 수 있다는 점을 시사한다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to identify the effects of key elements of the competency-based curriculum on competencies of middle school students in Korea. Using 9th grade student data from 2017 KEDI Survey Research on Student Competencies, 55 middle school and 2,769 students were analyzed. For this study, 2-level multilevel analysis was conducted with competencies extracted based on the 2015 revised national curriculum. The main results are as follows. First, the result of analyzing basic model indicates that the overall distribution of students’ competencies can be explained by the student’s factor than school ’s factor. Second, the analysis of the final model shows that students’ differences (gender, physical and psychological well-being, academic achievement levels, peer relationship, and experiential activities) and family related backgrounds (parental support) are positively effect on their competencies. Moreover, the school-level variables, which are the teacher-student ratio and teaching method(structured class, collaborative project-based learning) had significant influence on competencies significantly. Especially, the key elements of competency-based curriculum like student-participatory activities, the meanings of learning, process-based assessment had aldo positively effects on competencies. The results implies that education needs to encourage their students to internalize the meanings of learning, take personal initiatives through curriculum so as to improve their competencies.
