청소년전문지도자가 된다는 것의 의미

국문 초록

이 글은 청소년전문지도자와 관련한 “이론 형성”을 염두에 두고 청소년전문지도자가 괸다는 것의 의미를 이해하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 연구 질문은 청소년전문지도자는 “어떤” 일을 “왜” 그리고 “어떻게” 하는가이다. 그 대답을 찾기 위해 본 연구는 문헌연구를 중심으로 하고 20년이상 청소년업무 현장에 종사한 미국의 청소년전문지도자 15명을 대상으로 한 인터뷰 기반 질적사례연구의 결과를 활용하였다. 연구결과는 몇가지로 나타났다. 첫째, 청소년지도자가 된다는 것은 지도자적 품성과 자질을 갖추고 청소년과 함께 일하는데 필요한 전문적 지식과 기술을 포함하는 역량을 구비해야하는 것을 의미한다. 둘째, 청소년전문지도자가 된다는 것은 청소년에게 기회를 주고, 경청하고, 지지적 개발자가 되며, 친구같은 멘토, 역할 모델, 자원을 가진 사람이며, 청소년을 위한 옹호활동과 지지성을 갖는다는 것을 의미한다. 셋째, 청소년전문지도자는 또한 청소년 관련 단체·기관의 행정가나 종사자의 직무능력을 개발하는 요원 또는 교육과정 개발자로 일할 수 있는 의미도 갖는다. 청소년지도자와 관련한 연구와 논의 그리고 제도화와 관련한 변화의 방향에 대해 시사점을 줄 것으로 기대한다.

영문 초록

This study aims to explore the meaning of being a youth professionals in view of the“theory building”of youth professionals. Research questions is“what”kinds of work,“why”and“how”do youth professionals work? In order to find the answers, this study utilized the data of in-dept interview based qualitative case study implemented for the 15 youth professionals worked for more than 20 years in the USA in addition to literature reviews on the topics. Research yielded several results as follows: First, the meaning of being a youth professional is related to preparing competencies of professional knowledge and skill to work with youth with personality and qualities of a leader. Second, the meaning of being a youth professional is to being a developer by giving an opportunity and listening carefully and being a friend-like mentor, a role model, and a resource person. Third, the meaning of being a youth professional is also related to work for the youth as an administrator, personnel to develop work competence of the practitioners in the field, and a developer of youth program and curriculum of the activities. This study expects to contribute to suggesting the directions of the changes in the research, discussion, and institutionalization related to Korean youth professionals.
