한국 초등학교 교사들의 영재성과 영재학생들의 재능발달 지원에 대한 인식에 관한 연구

국문 초록

세계적인 영재교육의 흐름에 발맞추어 한국정부도 제3차 영재교육진흥 종합계획을 통해 감춰진 영재학생들을 선발하기 위한 방법으로 교사의 관찰과 추천을 강조해왔다. 그러나, 이들 방법이 성공하기 위해서는 교사들이 영재성과 영재성의 발달에 관해 올바른 인식을 가지는 것이 매우 중요하다. 이 연구는 두 가지 리서치 질문을 바탕으로 수행되었다: (a) 한국 초등학교 선생님들이 재능발달과 관련하여 영재성에 대한 인식은 무엇인가? (b)한국 초등학교 선생님들이 영재 학생들의 재능발달을 위해 어떻게 가르쳐야 한다고 인식을 하고 있나? 이 리서치 질문들에 답하기 위해 설문지가 작성되었고, 이 설문지는 응답자의 영재성에 대한 인식이 전통적인 영재성 혹은 현대적인 영재성 개념 쪽으로 기울어진 정도를 나타내는 TCGiftedness와 응답자들이 영재학생들의 재능발달을 위해 영재교육 서비스를 수용하는 정도를 나타내는 TDS라는 두 개의 개념을 나타내는 설문지 아이템들로 구성되어 있다. 서울의 834명의 초등학교 선생님들이 설문에 참여하였고, 그 응답들이 분석되었다. 결과적으로 이 연구는 좀 더 다양한 분야의 영재 학생들이 선발될 수 있도록 하기 위해서는 한국정부가 영재교육 관련 직무연수 확대를 통해 한국 초등교사가 영재성과 영재학생들의 재능발달에 대한 지원에 대한 인식을 개선할 수 있도록 노력해야 한다는 시사점을 제공하고 있다.

영문 초록

In accordance with the pace of global gifted education, Korean government has emphasized teachers’observations and recommendations as identification methods to select hidden gifted students through the Third Comprehensive Plan for Improvement of Gifted Education. However, to succeed with these methods, it is important for teachers to have correct perceptions about giftedness and the development of giftedness. This study was conducted based on two research questions: (a) What are the perceptions of Korean elementary teachers about giftedness in terms of talent development? and (b) What perceptions do Korean elementary teachers have regarding how to teach gifted students in order to develop their talents? To answer these research questions, a survey was constructed, which was composed of items indicating the following two constructs: TCGiftedness, showing the degree that the perceptions of participants lean towards the more traditional or contemporary giftedness, and TDS, showing the degree that the perceptions of participants accommodate gifted services for talent development. The survey responses of 834 elementary teachers in Seoul were analyzed. Consequently, this study implies that the Korean government must make efforts to ensure that gifted students from diverse areas are selected through the broadening of gifted education-related professional development to improve perceptions of Korean elementary teachers about giftedness and support for talent development.
