초등학교에서의 자녀 학업성취, 학부모 학교참여, 학교만족도의 관계에 대한 혼합연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 초등학교 단계에서 일반학교와 혁신학교에서 나타나는 학부모 학교참여 실태 및 영향요인을 확인하고, 학부모의 학교참여와 학교만족도의 관계를 분석하고자 수행되었다. 이를 위해 경기교육종단연구(GEPS) 1-3차년도 데이터를 이용한 양적연구와 혁신학교 학부모 7명을 대상으로 수행한 질적연구를 순차적으로 적용하는 혼합연구를 실시하였다. 분석 결과, 혁신학교 학부모들은 일반학교 학부모들에 비해 전반적으로 학교 교육활동에 적극적으로 참여하는 것으로 나타났다. 모든 학교유형에서 어머니 학력이 높을수록, 가구소득이 많을수록 학교참여가 활발했고, 맞벌이 여부는 학교참여에 부정적인 영향을 미쳤다. 그리고 학교 교육활동에 적극적으로 참여하는 학부모일수록 학교만족도가 높았다. 한편 일반학교에서는 자녀 학업성취가 높을수록, 자녀수가 적을수록 학부모의 학교참여 빈도가 높은 것으로 나타났으나 혁신학교에서는 그러한 관계가 유의미하지 않았다. 마지막으로 ‘자녀 학업성취→학부모 학교참여→학부모 학교만족도’의 매개경로는 일반학교에서만 유의미한 것으로 확인되었다. 이를 통해 일반학교 학부모들에게서는 자녀에 대한 교육적 관여로서의 학부모 학교참여 양상 이 주로 나타날 개연성을 확인하였다. 한편 혁신학교 학부모들의 학교참여 동기 및 의미에 대해 고찰한 결과, 이들의 학교참여는 자녀의 인지적 성취 향상을 위한 교육적 관여에 한정되지 않고 교육주체로서 주도적으로 학교에 개입하는 의미가 내포되어 있음을 포착하였다. 이상의 분석결과를 통해 교육주체로서의 학부모 학교참여가 나아가야 할 방향성에 대하여 간략하게 논의하였다.

영문 초록

This study examined the practice of parent involvement in elementary school and the relationship between parent involvement and school satisfaction. Using quantitative data from 1st to 3rd wave of Gyeonggi Education Panel Study(GEPS) and qualitative data obtained from 7 parents in innovation elementary schools, the analysis employed sequential mixed methods design. Parents in innovation schools were more frequently involved in school compared with parents in the general schools. In both innovation and general schools, mother s education level and household income significantly improved the frequency of parent involvement but double income family had a negative impact on the parent involvement. Parents who actively involved in school were more satisfied with school. Only in general schools, child s academic achievement and the number of children had significant impacts on the frequency of parent involvement. In addition, the mediating effect of parent involvement in the relationship between child s academic achievement and parent’s school satisfaction was significant only in general schools. Parent involvement in innovation schools, on the other hands, was not limited to the support for child’s academic achievement, but the participation in the school’s educational activities as educational subjects. Based on these findings, the issues and implications of Korean education related to the parent involvement were discussed.
