소수자의 삶에 공명하여 위로와 기도가 된 이야기‧이야기하기

국문 초록

본고는 개별자들이 세상을 살면서 공동체로부터 보호받지 못하고 고통 받았을 때, 이야기가 보여주는 이들에 대한 관심과 지원이 위로와 희망으로 담론화되는 의미를 생각해 보고자 했다. 효빈잡기가 전하는 신경희 사건은 권력자의 패악에 의해 살해된 인물들을 이야기함으로써 공분을 일으켰고 패악한 이의 최후를 밝혀 경계하도록 했다. 신경희에게 낯섦은 폭력의 빌미가 되었고, 이로 인해 선량한 삼형제가 모두 살해되는 비극을 맞았다. 비도덕적인 권력자의 만행은 원통한 피해자들뿐만 아니라 이를 바라볼 수밖에 없었던 공동체 구성원들을 수치스럽고 고통스럽게 한다. 그러므로 폭압적 행위를 정당화하지 않고 건강한 사회를 회복하기 위해서 누군가는 소외된 이들의 얼굴을 들여다보고 목소리를 기억하며 이야기를 나누어야 했다. 폭력적으로 배제된 이들의 면면을 살피고 이야기하는 것이야말로 권력자들을 반성하게 하고 고통받는 이들에게 위로와 힘이 되기 때문이다. 계서야담의 <아전을 구한 강릉김씨>(구비설화 <돈 천냥의 구원>)는 자기희생적이고 조건 없이 선행을 베푼 사람에 의해 사회가 어떻게 변화되는지 보여준 이야기이다. 조선후기 계층과 세대를 아우르며 감동을 전달한 이 이야기에는, 우리의 삶이 서로 마음을 나누는 사회 속에서 함께 살아갈 때에 의미가 있으며, 주체로서의 나는 공 동체의 모든 구성원들과의 관계 속에서 존재하는 만큼 먼 타인들과도 전혀 무관한 것이 아니며 오히려 책임도 있다는 양심의 목소리가 담겨 있다. 은혜 받은 이들이 삶을강렬하게 전환하여 보은의 미덕을 실천하면서 이야기 속 모든 이들이 긍정적으로 변화된 삶을 살게 되는데, 이는 당대 이야기 공동체의 바람이기도 했다. 이처럼 이야기는 소외당한 사람들의 면면을 기억하고 전달하면서 세상이 바로 되길 기원하고, 변화하는 사회 속에서 공동체가 추구할 가치와 윤리를 부각하였다. 이야기를 나누며 공감하거나 감동하는 경험이야말로 사회가 공통의 마음을 확인하는 순간이므로, 고통 받는 사람들에 대한 관심과 이야기하기는 공동체 구성원들이 적극적으로 실천해야 할 문화 정치적 행위이다.

영문 초록

This article examines the cultural politics of the stories that focus on a minority s lives. The object of this study is the narrative of the late Joseon Dynasty, I chose two narratives that convey a minority’s situation. One is a story of an innocent victim who was killed by the violence of a powerful person, and the other discusses the painful situation of the family whose son received the death sentence after incurring a huge debt. The stories show the situations of alienated person or introduce people to help them. I discuss how these stories were transmitted to comfort society and give it hope. Officer Shin Kyung-Hee(申景禧) found the man wearing the ladies clothes while preparing for the war on 1593. Poor family’s youngest son, who was drafted into the army with his two brothers, had no winter clothes. Therefore, his mother, who loved the youngest son very much took off her clothes and gave them to him. The youngest son wore mother’s clothes according to her will, even though the law strictly prohibited a man from dressing up as a woman. The aforementioned officer hated this man in the woman’s clothing very much and tried to kill him. As his two brothers begged for mercy, the officer killed them all. The tragic affair caused pain not only victims, but also for society. In order to condemn immoral violence, someone had to look at the faces of the alienated people and remember their voices, then tell their stories. Watching and talking about those who were violently excluded from society comforted the victims. Also, it frighten the ruler of the time. The story “Salvation by Giving All the Money” shows how society is transformed by those who show self-sacrifice and unconditional goodness. This story impressed all classes and generations in the late Joseon dynasty. It focuses on following subject : It is meaningful when we live together in a society where our lives are shared with one another. I exists in a relationship with all people in society. Therefore, no one is not irrelevant to me, and I am responsible to everyone in society. This story conveys the enthusiastic hopes of society at the time. The story reminds us the faces of alienated people and conveys a wish the world to be right. Thus, storytelling is the political act that the members of the community must actively perform, because the experience of sharing and talking the emotion helps society establish a common mind.
