이야기 구술 현장에서의 세대 간 갈등과 소통

국문 초록

이 글은 현재 우리 사회의 이야기 구술 현장에서 노년과 젊은 세대가 소통할 수 없다는 문제의식에서 시작한다. 소통의 장이었던 구술 현장이 세대 갈등의 장으로 변질된 양상을 구술 현장의 특성과 이야기의 주제, 말하기 방식 등을 통해 살펴보고자 한다. 구비문학이 갖는 세대간의 소통과 갈등 양상을 살피기 위해서는 이야기를 조사하여 기록한 텍스트보다는 구술의 현장에 주목하는 것이 효과적으로 보인다. 그래서 이 글에서는 필자가 직접 경험한 도심공원의 이야기판을 분석 대상으로 삼았다. 도심공원 이야기판에서 이야기꾼은 청중에 대해 교시적이며, 계몽적인 태도를 취하는 경향이 있다. 이야기 텍스트의 장르는 전설이나 사화 · 인물전설 · 야담에 치중되며, 주제도 대체로 효자 · 효부 · 열녀 등의 윤리적인 이야기가 대세를 이룬다. 이런 특징속에서 노년의 이야기꾼이 세태나 시국이야기를 구연할 때 젊은 세대들에 대한 불만이나 비판을 강하게 표시하고, 이 과정에서 구술 현장은 세대 갈등의 자리로 변한다. 노년층의 이야기꾼들이 세태이야기를 구연할 때 젊은 세대들을 버릇없고 어른 공대를 못하는 존재로 비난하면서 세대 갈등이 일어나는데, 탑골공원의 유능한 이야기꾼 금자탑의 경우는 비난-훈계-당부-격려의 단계로 말하기 방식을 진행하여 구술의 현장을 소통 장으로 전환하고 있다. 이야기판에서 한국전쟁 체험담은 현대의 사화로 주로 구연되는데, 노년층의 이야기꾼은 젊은 세대들이 투철한 국가관과 반공의식 · 대북 적대감을 갖지 않는다고 노골적으로 불만을 드러낸다. 이 과정에서 이념 갈등은 세대 갈등으로 전치된다. 그러나 반전의식과 인도주의 사상을 바탕에 깔고 구술하는 전쟁 체험담 구술 방식은 전쟁 세대의 고생에 대해 전후 세대들이 공감과 경의를 표하게 하는 소통의 말하기 방식이다. 구술 현장의 세대 갈등을 소통으로 전환하기 위해서는 구술자의 말하기 방식을 바꾸어야 한다. 자기의식을 과잉되게 강요하지 말고, 젊은 청중에 대한 불만을 토로하는 과정에서도 비판-훈계-당부-격려 등의 단계적 말하기 방식을 익힐 필요가 있다. 그리고 몇몇 사람들에 대한 불만을 세대 전체로 확장하는 말하기 방식도 자제해야 한다. 무엇보다도 인도주의적이고 합리적인 인성을 바탕에 둔 말하기 방식이 요구된다. 그런 가운데 구술의 현장은 세대가 서로 소통하고 공감하는 담론의 장으로 거듭날 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

This article starts from the critical mind that the generations can not communicate in the oral story field of our society at present. The oral field which was a place of communication was transformed into a place of intergenerational conflict. We will look at this corrupted aspect through the characteristics of the oral field, the theme of the story, and the way of speaking. Storytellers in central park story stage tend to be instructive and educative to audience. The genre of the story text is focused on the legend, the historical story, the character legend, and the unofficial historical story. and the theme is generally the ethical story such as the devoted son, the devoted daughter and the virtuous widow. In such characteristics, when a storyteller of old age describes the story of social conditions or affairs of state, he strongly displays a complaint or criticism against young generations. and in this process, the oral field becomes a place of intergenerational conflict. When storytellers of old age talk about the story of social conditions, intergenerational conflict arises by blaming the young generations impolite. In the case of the golden tower(금자탑), a talented storyteller of Pagoda Park, he is transforming the field of oral statement into the field of communication through the method of speaking with the steps of blame – admonition – plea – encouragement. In the story stage, the experiences of the Korean War are mainly narrated as contemporary historical story. Storytellers of old age blame plainly that young generations have no consciousness of nationalism and anti-communism. In this process, ideological conflicts are substituted for generation conflicts. However, the oral method of war experience based on the consciousness of antiwar and humanitarianism functions as the way of speaking of communication that postwar generation expresses sympathy and respect for the trace of war generation. In order to turn intergenerational conflict of the oral field into communication, the way of speaking of story teller should be changed. Do not force self-consciousness excessively, as dictating the way of speaking based on humanitarian and rational personality, the oral field can be reborn as a place of discourse that generations communicate and sympathize each other.
