일본인 노벨상 수상자들의 교육 및 연구 환경에 나타난 특징

국문 초록

2012년 현재 일본인 노벨상 수상자는 18명이다. 그 내역은 물리학상, 화학상, 생리학？의 학상 등 자연과학계 수상자 15명, 문학상 수상자 2명, 평화상 수상자 1명이다. 자연과학계 수상자만으로도 239명을 배출한 미국은 물론이고, 77명과 68명을 각각 배출한 영국과 독 일과도 비교가 되지 않을 정도로 적다. 그래도 미국과 유럽에 있는 여러 나라를 제외하면 일본이 유일하게 자연과학계 노벨상 수상자를 10명 이상 배출했다. 본 연구의 목적은 일본 인 노벨상 수상자들이 받은 교육과 그들의 연구 환경에 나타난 특징을 밝힘으로써 향후 창 의적인 연구자를 양성하기 위한 교육과 연구 풍토를 제시하는 데에 있다. 일본인 노벨상 수상자들이 받은 교육에 나타난 특징은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 수상자 모두가 일본의 명문 국 립 대학 출신이다. 일본인 노벨상 수상자는 10대 때 치열한 입시 경쟁을 통과하기 위하여 다양한 교과를 열심히 공부한 사람들이다. 둘째, 독서나 학교 교육 과정을 통해 교양을 쌓 은 수상자들이 있다. 일본인 수상자들의 연구 환경에 나타난 특징은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 자 연과학계 수상자 15명 중 11명이 일본 국내에서 노벨상 수상 연구를 해냈다. 이는 일본 국내에서 연구하더라도 노벨상을 받을 수 있음을 보여준다. 둘째, 자유로운 연구 분위기 속 에서 연구를 한 수상자들이 있다. 노벨상 수상자 같은 창의적인 연구자를 양성하기 위해서 는 자유로운 연구 분위기가 꼭 필요하다.

영문 초록

Japan produced eighteen Nobel Prize winners as of 2012. This is a small number comparing with those of the US, England, Germany and other European countries. While the US produced 239 Nobel laureates in natural science, and England and Germany did 77 and 68 respectively, Japan produced only fifteen. In spite of this, only Japan produced more than ten Nobel laureates in natural science in the world except the countries above mentioned. This study illustrates the characteristics of education that Japanese Nobel Prize winners received and of environment where they studied their majors. All of Japanese Nobel Prize winners graduated from Japanese prestigious national universities such as Tokyo University, Kyoto University and so on. They had to study very hard to enter such universities when they were junior high or high school students. Out of eighteen Japanese Nobel laureates, seven received education at high schools having liberal arts course under the prewar education system in Japan. Some laureates read a lot of books when they were students. Some studied their majors at university or laboratory in their country or abroad under a friendly atmosphere. And some love to study because it is interesting for them to study. Among fifteen Japanese Nobel laureates in natural science, eleven won the Nobel Prize through their studying in their country, most of whom were professors at university. Three were awarded to the Nobel Prize through their studying abroad, who were professors or a research fellow in the US or Switzerland. And one won the Nobel Prize through his going to the US for study.
