여자교육대학생의 교직에서의 진로계획 결정에 관한 연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 교직 내 여성의 경험을 이해하기 위해 여자교육대학생의 교직에서의 진로계획 결정 과정을 분석하였다. 이를 위하여 대도시 소재 1개 교육대학과 중소도시 소재 1개 교육 대학의 3, 4학년 2학기에 재학 중인 학생 가운데 교직에 입직할 의사가 있는 여학생 15명에 게 심층면담을 실시하였다. 연구결과 적성과 흥미에 따라 교사가 되기를 희망하여 교육대학을 선택한 연구참여자들도 있으나, 그렇지 않은 경우에는 성적, 가정의 경제적 형편, 취업 가능성, 직업의 안정성, 여성 에게 유리한 직업이라는 점 등을 고려하였으며, 부모의 권유가 교육대학 선택에 중요한 영 향을 미쳤다. 교사를 희망하지 않았던 연구참여자들의 경우 입학 후 개인적, 가정적 요인, 타 진로의 탐색과 비교를 통해 알게 된 현실적 제약 때문에 진로변경을 포기하였으며, 교사 양성과정으로서의 교육대학에서의 경험을 통해 교직의 가치를 인식함으로써 교직을 수용하 였다. 교직을 수용한 연구참여자들은 적극적으로 학업성취를 추구하였으며, 지속적으로 직업 을 유지하고자 하였고, 입직 이후의 진로계획에서도 성취지향적이었다. 이들이 교직을 선택하고, 수용하며, 입직 이후의 진로계획을 세우는 과정에서 성취의 규범 과 이들이 여성이라는 인식은 지속적으로 영향을 미쳤다. 교직에서의 진로계획 결정 과정을 볼 때 연구참여자들은 전통적 성별분업을 수용하면서도 거부하는 모순된 특성을 보인다. 이 들이 처한 상황 속에서 교직은 이들에게 전통적 여성역할을 수행할 수 있는 여건을 가진 직 업으로서의 의미를 지닐 뿐만 아니라 전통적 성별분업을 탈피하여 여성이 사회적 성취를 지 속적으로 추구하고 남성과 평등한 관계를 이룰 수 있는 가능성을 열어주는 직업이라는 이중 적 의미를 지니고 있었다.

영문 초록

This study investigated how female students in National University of Education determine their career planning in teaching profession. In-depth interviews with 15 female students, who were attending two National University of Education, were conducted for the purpose of this study. All interviews were audio-taped, transcribed and analysed according to Spradly’s(1979) domain analysis, texonomic analysis, and componential analysis. Parents encouraged them to be a teacher because of stable income, enough time for home management, and less discrimination against women in the work place. Attending National University of Education, the students found it hard to change their career and realized that teaching was a good choice for female. Moreover, the students were able to understand the value of teaching from University experience, even they had weak motivation to be a teacher at first. Thus they accepted teaching as a promising future job. Most of them had diverse career plan in education field, such as professional teachers, educational administrators, and other professional jobs related child development or curriculum development. Achievement orientation and gender role were the important themes which occurred repeatedly when female students in National University of Education planned their future life in their work. Even they had achievement oriented aspiration and hoped equal status with men in the job and family, they also accepted traditional domestic role in the family as women’s responsibility. Their recognition about gender role was partly consistent with traditional gender division of labor, but partly inconsistent with it.
