국문 초록

이 글은 설화 구연 서사 구성 모형 개발을 위한 선행 연구로서 유능한 전통 이야기꾼의 서사 구성 기법과 특성을 분석하고, 현대의 설화 구연 현장에서의 적용 및 활용가능성을 살피는 데 목적이 있다. 이 글에서의 연구 대상 이야기꾼은 강원도 평창군의 김세기·유재헌 화자와 강원도 홍천군의 김성준 화자이다. 세 화자의 서사 구성 기법의 특성은 다음과 같다. 김세기 화자는 군더더기 없는 깔끔한 서사 구성과 직접 화법 위주의 구성으로 사건의 전환과 서사 전개 흐름을 빠르게 진행시킨다. 즉흥적인 서사 변개 구성으로 서사의 완결성을 높이고 청중의 반응에 따른 유동적 서사 배치로 서사의 장르 전환을 시도하며 묘사 방식을 적극 활용하여 장면을 극대화시키기도 한다. 유재헌 화자는 인물 정체 숨김 장치를 자주 활용하여 서사 반전의 극적 구성을 선호한다. 보편적 서사에 특정 지역 성씨를 결합시켜 특수 서사화 시키는 방식을 쓰기도 한다. 장면의 축소나 극대화를 통해 개성적 장면을 만들고, 역사적 정보, 한문 삽입, 장면 묘사의 구체화 등 다양한 수사를 활용하여 서사를 풍부하게 만들어 나간다. 서사의 장면을 축소하거나 극대화시키는 방식을 통해 개성적 장면을 만들어 낸다. 그리고 다양한 수사를 활용하여 서사의 맛을 살리는데 역사가형 이야기꾼답게 서사에 역사적 정보를 삽입하거나 한문을 활용하여 설명 위주로 정보를 제공하거나 일부 장면의 구체적 묘사를 통해 서사를 풍부하게 만들어 나간다. 김성준 화자는 민담의 보편적 서사에 고유 지명을 삽입하여 전설화시키는 경향이 있다. 또 본래의 서사에 창조적인 서사를 삽입하거나 독립된 둘 이상의 서사를 조합하여 복합 서사화 시키기도 한다. 그리고 비유적 표현, 과장적 표현, 문답표현, 적극적인 비언어적 표현 등 다양한 개성적 수사와 표현 기법을 활용하여 서사를 구성한다. 지금까지 살펴본 세 전통 이야기꾼의 서사 구성 특성은 각 이야기꾼 개인의 독창적인 기법이 발견되는 동시에 유사한 기법의 활용도 자주 발견된다. 개인 이야기꾼의 서사 구성 기법이 다수 이야기꾼에게서 나타나는 특성일 경우에는 구성 기법의 일반화가 가능해진다. 그렇기 때문에 설화 구연 서사 구성 모형을 개발하기 위해서는 앞으로도 보다 많은 개별 이야기꾼의 서사 구성 방식, 구연 방식의 연구가 필요하다. 학계에 보고된 전통 이야기꾼과 본 연구에서 소개한 세 이야기꾼이 유사한 서사 구성 및 구연기법을 지니고 있다. 이는 설화 구연을 희망하는 구연자를 위한 서사 구성 모형 개발에 있어 전통 이야기꾼의 서사 구성 기법을 현대의 이야기판 상황에 맞게 차용, 변형을 통해 다양한 적용과 활용 가능성을 보여주는 결과라 할 수 있다. 앞으로의 후속 과제는 전통 이야기꾼의 서사 구성 방식의 적용을 통해 누구나 쉽고, 생동감 넘치는 구연을 할 수 있는 실제적 방법을 모색하고 구안해 내는 것이다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this paper is to analyze the storytelling composition techniques and characteristics of talented traditional storyteller as a precedent study for the development of folktale storytelling composition models, and to examine the possibility of application in the modern storytelling field of folktales. The storytellers of this study are Kim SeGi and Yoo JaeHeon of Pyeongchang-gun, Gangwon-do, and Kim SeongJun of Hongchun-gun, Gangwon-Do. The characteristics of the storytelling technique of these storytellers are as follows. The first storyteller, Kim SeGi speeds up the transition of the events and the development flow of storytelling by using tidy storytelling and direct speech centered composition. He improves the completeness of storytelling with improvisational modification of storytelling composition and attempts to change the genre of storytelling by arranging a fluid narrative according to the reaction of the audience. He also maximizes the scene by actively utilizing the depiction method. The second storyteller, Yoo JaeHeon prefers the dramatic composition of storytelling reversal which he utilizes by frequently hiding character's identities. He also uses a special storytelling method that combines a specific local surname with a universal narrative. He creates individual scenes through the reduction or maximization of scenes, and enriches the story by using various rhetorical device such as historical information, the insertion of Chinese characters, and the materialization of scene description. The third storyteller, Kim SeongJun tends to be legendize the folktales by inserting a unique place name. He also inserts creative narratives into original stories, or makes complex stories by combining two or more independent narratives. He constructs the stories by using various unique rhetorical and expressive techniques such as metaphorical expression, exaggerated expression, question and answer expression, and active nonverbal expression. The characteristics of the three traditional storytellers' storytelling composition methods have been found to be unique to each storyteller, but the utilization of similar techniques is often observed. If an individual storyteller’s storytelling composition method can be matched with other storytellers' characteristics, it becomes possible to generalize the composing techniques. Therefore, in order to develop a storytelling composition model, it is necessary to study the storytelling composition methods of more individual storytellers in the future. The traditional storytellers reported in academia and the three storytellers introduced in this study have similar storytelling composition and narrative techniques. This is a result of showing the possibilities of various application and utilization of the storytelling composition technique of traditional storytellers by borrowing and modifying those technique in the context of the situation of the modern storytelling field in the development of a storytelling composition model for the storytellers who hope to narrate folktales. The next step is to develop a practical method for anyone to narrate easily and lively by applying the storytelling composition method of traditional storytellers.
