영문 초록

The purpose of this study were to investigate the patterns of sleep appearances and to find out conditions for easier occurrence of natural sleep during routine EEG examination. The subjects of this study were randomly selected 200 patients who had undergone EEG examinations at Soonchunhyang University Hospital EEG laboratory. The results were as follows ; 1) Half of the cases(50%) showed sleep EEG patterns and 56% of them(56 cases) showed sleep stage II patterns. 2) Sleep latency of those who reached only sleep stage I was significantly longer than that of those who reached sleep stage II. 3) Sleep was induced within the first 15 minutes of EEG records in 86.4 % of all the sleepers. Afterwards, the sleep induction rate was abruptly decreased. 4) Ninety percent of the sleepers showed the EEG patterns of sleep stage II within the first 15 minutes of sleep. 5) When the subjects were divided into two groups by the time of EEG recording, i.e, morning and afternoon groups, there was no difference in the rates of sleep induction and appearance of sleep stage II. However, sleep latency was significantly shorter in the afternoon group. 6) EEG patterns of sleep stages 3 and stage 4 and REM sleep were not observed in any subjects studied.
