영문 초록

Akathisia has received increased attention in recent years because of the realization that it is a major reason for patients subjectve discomfort and poor compliance with medication. But the traditional treatment of neuroleptic-induced akathisaia has been disappointing. To evaluate the clinical efficacy of clonidine in managing neuroleptic induced akathisia, the authors studied 12 inpatients who were admitted at the department of neuropsychiatry of Korea University Medical Center during the periods from March to July, 1988. The subjects were treated with clonidine(0.30—0.60mg/day) in an open on-drung/off-drug trial. The efficacy of clonidine was assessed on everyday by Extrapyramidal Rating Scale of Chouinard and State-Trait Anxiety Inventory of Spielberger. The results were as follows. 1) Most patients demonstrated improvement of their akathisia on Akathisia Rating Scale (P〈0.0001) and after discontinuation of clonidine akathisia scores returned to pretreatment levels within 24- 48 hours. 2) Anxiety rating scores after clonidine treatment were significantly lower, compared with the scores before clonidine treatment (P<0.006). 3) Systolic and diastolic blood pressure fell from 120.0± 13.8mmHg, 83.8士 9.8mmHg to 108.3士 9.0 mmHg, 69.2 ± 8.6mmHg after clonidine treatment, respectively.
