영문 초록

The authors studied the depression, anxiety, their influential epidemilolgic factors and characteristic symptoms of 459 medical patients who were admitted to Haewha, Kuro Hospital, Korea University from February, 1989, to April, 1989. The results were as follow s; 1) Among the total 459 inpatients, considerable depression was noticed in 37% of them by BDI, and anxiety in 51% by STAI. 2) Female patients were significantly more anxious than the male patients(p〈0.005). There was a tendeney for depression to increase with age and the maximum depression was noticed in the sixth decade group(p〈0.005). There was more depression & anxiety in lower education group and the maximum depression & anxiety were noticed in the middle school education group(p〈0.001). There was less depression in higher economic status group. 3) The group that had sleep disturbance was more depressed & anxious than the group that did not have sleep disturbance(p〈0.001). Among the depressed patients, the most common sleep disturbance was the difficulty in falling asleep(p〈0.005). 4) In symptom analysis, 14 symptoms distinguished the depressed from the nondepressed patients at a statistically significant level. They are anorexia, retardation, loneliness, anxiety, insomnia, lowered mood, headache, negative body image, fatigue, dyspepsia, irritability, somatic preoccupation, general pain and chest discomfort. Among all symptoms, anorexia, retardation and fatigue were most prominent in depressed patients. 5) Female patients complained of more somatic symptoms such as headache； chest discomfort than male patients at a statistically significant level(p〈0.05).
