영문 초록

To investigate the neuroendocrine response after electroconvulsive therapy, the authors studied the changes of the serum levels of prolactin and growth hormone before and after electroconvulsive therapy in 13 neuroleptic-resistant schizophrenics. Blood-samples were drawn from the antecubital vein 20 min. before and 5, 15，30 and 60 min. after electroconvulsive therapy. Electroconvulsive therapy was induced by the application of 110 volts for a period 0.3—O.lsec., using bitemporal electrodes. Serum prolactin and growth hormone were measured by radioimmunoassay( double antibody). After electroconvulsive therapy there were massive and rapid increased in the serum concentrations of prolactin, and also significant increases of growth hormone. Analysis of these hormonal responses in terms of the knowledge available on the neurotransmitter. Control of prolactin and growth hormone suggests that the responses of both hormone by electroconvulsive therapy seemed to be released through the activation of serotonergic system of central nervous system
