국문 초록

공중화장실은 그 특성상 범죄의 표적이 되기 쉬우며, 이용자들에게 두려움을 유발할 수 있는 장소로 인식된다. 본 연구에서는 기존 관련 선행연구를 통해 도출된 공중화장실에서의 범죄두려움 유발 요소를 검토하고, 안심 공중화장실 VR체험을 통해 구현된 범죄예방 요소들에 대한 이용자들의 효과성 인식을 살펴봄으로써 안심 공중화장실 환경을 조성하는 데 중요한 시사점을 제공하는 것에 목적이 있다. 주요 분석결과, 공중화장실에서의 범죄예방과 범죄두려움 감소를 위해 적용하였던 CPTED 요소인 화장실 내·외부 조명, CCTV, 출입문 디자인(허리 아래 투명 문), ‘안심화장실’ 안내문, 내부 비상벨, 안심화장실 안내방송, 유지·관리, 후각·청각 요소 등의 요소들에 대한 전반적인 사용자의 효과 인식이 매우 긍정적인 것으로 나타났다. 이 연구에서 도출된 결과를 통하여 현실에서의 안심 공중화장실 조성에 있어서 각 요소의 효과를 고려한 구체적인 범죄예방 설계 기준을 마련할 필요성을 제언하였으며, 끝으로 연구의 한계점을 제시하였다.

영문 초록

Due to their nature, public toilets are often targeted for crimes and are perceived as places that can induce fear among users. This study aims to review the factors that induce fear of crime in public toilets, identified through existing related previous studies, and to examine users' perceptions of the effectiveness of crime prevention techniques implemented through a VR experience of a safe public toilet. This study provides important insights into creating a safe public toilet environment. The main analysis results showed that users' overall perceptions of the effectiveness of CPTED (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design) elements applied to prevent crime and reduce fear of crime in public toilets, such as interior and exterior lighting, CCTV, entrance door design (transparent doors below the waist), 'safe toilet' signage, internal emergency bells, olfactory and auditory elements, safe toilet announcements, and maintenance and management techniques, were very positive. Based on the results derived from this study, it was suggested that there is a need to establish specific crime prevention design standards considering the effectiveness of each element in creating safe public toilets in reality. Lastly, the study's limitations were presented.
