국문 초록

Purpose - The declining birthrate is not unique to South Korea, and its neighbor Japan is no exception. Despite various birth control measures, Japan's population has not stopped declining. It is hoped that this research will be used as a basis for the solution to Korea's birthrate problem, as well as a direction of improvement. Design/Methodology/Approach - The study used various data from the Japanese government, related organizations, and private research institutes to examine the current status and problems of Japan's low birthrate. We also referenced the Nagareyama-city website for details on pregnancy, childbirth, childcare, and childcare support. Findings - The study explored in detail the various childbirth and childcare policies, strategies, and peculiarities of South Korea and Japan's low birthrate, focusing on the extreme case of Nagareyama-city. Research Implications - South Korea's total fertility rate has fallen to one of the lowest in the world, and there is no solution to solve it in the short term. However, there is no reason to stop trying to overcome the decline. It is a matter of national survival. It is time for a broader and more sophisticated design to address the birthrate problem as soon as possible.
