국문 초록

Since cities grow and decline in relation to their surrounding areas, it is necessary to evaluate the stages of urban growth in order to closely analyze the regional situation. In this study, we evaluated changes in demographic·social and economic·industrial aspects, as well as the stage of urban growth and decline, in the southern and northern regions of Gyeonggi Province, which have various policy issues, and suggested directions for urban policy. The results of the study are as follows. First, in terms of demographic and social aspects, both the southern and northern regions of Gyeonggi show the characteristics of growth cities with increasing populations. Second, in terms of economic·industrial aspects, the southern and northern regions have similar industrial characteristics, but the concentration is greater in the southern region. Third, the southern and northern regions as a whole show characteristics of growing cities, but at the city level, they show various stages of growth, including urbanization, suburbanization, semi-urbanization, and reurbanization. In summary, a comprehensive consideration of urban growth stages and urban decline is necessary to prepare appropriate policies for cities. The methodology can also be utilized to establish megacity zones, which have become an increasingly popular topic.

영문 초록

도시는 주변지역과의 관계를 통해 성장하고 쇠퇴하기 때문에, 지역의 상황을 면밀하게 분석하 기 위해서는 도시성장단계 평가가 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 다양한 정책적 이슈가 있는 경기 남부권 및 북부권을 대상으로 인구·사회, 경제·산업적 측면의 변화와 도시성장단계 및 쇠퇴도를 평가하였 고, 이를 통해 도시정책의 방향성을 제안하였다. 연구를 통해 도출한 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 인구 사회 측면에서 경기 남부권 및 북부권 전체는 인구가 증가하는 성장도시의 특성을 보인다. 둘째, 경 제·산업 측면에서 경기 남부권 및 북부권은 유사한 산업특성을 보이나 경기 남부권의 집중도가 큰 편이다. 셋째, 남부권 및 북부권 전체를 기준으로 성장하는 도시의 특성을 보이나, 시단위의 경우 도 시화-교외화-반도시화-재도시화 등 다양한 성장단계를 보이고 있다. 종합하면 도시에 적합한 정책을 마련하기 위해서 도시성장단계 및 도시쇠퇴에 대한 종합적인 고려가 필요하다. 또한 도시성장단계 평 가기법은 최근 이슈가 되는 메가시티 권역을 설정할 때 활용될 수 있다.
