국문 초록

본 연구에서는 서비스의 중요성과 현대에 들어 빠른 진전을 보이고 있는 경제의서비스화의 정의, 현황, 발생원인, 경제발전과의 관계 그리고 우리나라 서비스화의 문제점 및 이에 대한 개선방안을 살펴보았다. 한국은행의 산업연관표에 따르면 2007년 우리나라의 경우 총산출액에서 서비스가 차지하는 비중은 40.4%로 46.5%인 제조업에 뒤지고 있으나 민간소비지출에서 차지하는 비중과 고용비중은 각각 69.0%와 67.3%(고용은 2008년)으로 가장 높게 나타나 고용과 소비부문에서는 서비스화가 상당히 진전되었으나 생산 측면에는 아직까지 제조업 위주의 산업구조를 보이고 있는 것으로 조사되었다. 또한 경제의 서비스화는 소득의 증가와 연관이 있지만 소득의 증가가 서비스 산업의 발전을 초래하는지 아니면 서비스산업의 발전이 소득의 증가를 초래하는지는 명확히 밝혀지지 않았다. 우리나라 경제의 서비스화 특징은 저부가가치를 생산하는 노동집약적산업 위주의 산업구조와 산업 전반에 걸친 낮은 생산성을 들 수 있다. 따라서 서비스화를 통한 경제성장을 도모하기 위해서는 고부가가치를 생산하는 지식기반서비스산업 위주의 구조조정과 시장개방과 제도개선을 통한 경쟁력 제고가 매우 시급한 사항으로 조사되었다.

영문 초록

This paper throughly discusses the definition, current state and importance of the service economy and its relations with economic development. Development strategies for the service economy are also examined. Even though there is no universally accepted definition of the service economy, it is defined as the economy in which service industry plays a major roll and its share in GDP and employment rise with economic development. Service Sector growth is linked to rise in per capita income. However, it does not guaranteed the economic growth. Therefore, service sector growth should be focused on the knowledge-based service industry, which produce a higher value added. Stronger competition through liberalization and deregulation of the service sector would raise the productivity of the service industry as well as the whole economy. It is also recommended that firms act as the total firms that not only produce commodities but also produce and sell services by using the produced commodities as intermediate products.
