국문 초록

본 연구는 보 로그-로그(complementary log-log) 모형과 로짓(logit) 모형을 이용해 기업의 연구개발(R&D) 투자가 수출시장 중단 위험률(hazard)에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지에 대해 실증 분석하였다. 기업의 연구개발 활동을 내부 연구개발, 외부 연구개발, 내부와 외부 연구개발을 동시에 투자하는 경우로 구분하여, 이러한 연구개발 활동이 기업의 수출 중단 위험률에 미치는 영향을 실증 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 기업이 내부 연구개발 투자를 하거나 또는 내부와 외부 연구개발을 동시에 투자하는 경우, 기업의 수출시장 중단 위험률이 낮게 나타났다. 그러나 기업이 외부 연구개발에만 투자하는 경우, 이러한 연구개발 활동이 수출 중단 위험률에 미치는 영향은 통계적으로 유의하지 않았다. 이러한 실증 분석 결과는, 기업의 내부 연구개발 투자는 외부 지식을 기업의 특징에 맞게 활용하여 혁신을 도모하고 경쟁력을 향상시키는 중요한 역할을 하는 것으로 판단할 수 있다. 본 연구 결과는 연구개발정책과 수출지원 정책에 다음과 같은 중요한 시사점을 제공한다. 수출 기업의 기술 경쟁력 강화를 위해서 연구개발 활동을 적극적으로 지원할 필요가 있다. 특히, 기업의 수출활동 지속과 글로벌 기업으로서의 성장을 위해서, 기업의 내부 연구개발과 외부 연구개발 활동을 통한 다양한 혁신 활동이 이루어 질 수 있도록 정책적 지원을 확대해야 하고, 글로벌 시장 진출을 통해 지속적인 성장이 이루어질 수 있도록 혁신 기술 기업에 대한 지원을 강화할 필요가 있다.

영문 초록

This study investigates the effects of research and development (R&D) investment on export market exit hazard rates, with a focus on in-house R&D and R&D outsourcing. The empirical results using the random-effects complementary log-log model and logit model show that firms engaging only in internal R&D exhibit a lower hazard rate for export market exit. Conversely, firms engaging only in external R&D exhibit no statistically significant effects on the hazard rate. Furthermore, firms involved in both internal and external R&D have an even lower hazard rate, indicating a synergistic effect from conducting both internal and external R&D. The empirical results imply that internal R&D is pivotal in internalizing external knowledge as well as increasing competitiveness. Therefore, the empirical findings of this research suggest policy implications to assist exporting firms in conducting in-house R&D activities while engaging in external innovative collaborations. This could enhance their product competitiveness in the global market, facilitating continued exports and decreasing hazard rates in the export market.
