국문 초록

이 논문은 《東坡志林》의 판본과 <異事>편의 구성과 내용을 면밀히 살펴보고자 하는 목적에서 연구되었다. 蘇軾은 어릴 때부터 탁월한 문장력으로 이름났었고, 신구 양당의 투쟁으로 인한 유배생활을 통해 다양한 경험을 축적하면서 더욱 완숙한 작품들을 창작하게 되었다. 《東坡志林》은 《志林》, 《東坡手擇》, 《儋耳手擇》이라는 별칭을 가지고 있다. 蘇軾은 이 작품을 黃州 유배 시기에서 海南 유배 시기까지의 약 20년 동안 저술했을 것으로 추정된다. 《東坡志林》의 판본은 1권본, 12권본, 5권본이 있다. 12권본은 오류가 많다고 알려지고 전체적인 내용을 보완한 5권본이 통용본으로 전해지고 있다. 《東坡志林》은 우리나라와 일본에 유통되었고 필사본, 木版本, 목판활자본으로 새롭게 만들어지기도 했다. 이러한 유통 상황으로 볼 때 蘇軾의 《東坡志林》은 우리나라와 일본의 문학작품에 상당한 영향을 미쳤음을 시사한다. 《東坡志林》의 <異事>篇은 기이하고 독특한 소재를 사용하여 소설적인 흥취를 느낄 수 있는 부분들이 상당히 많다. <異事>篇은 도가와 연금술, 저승과 재생, 인물 관련 일화, 풍자와 기이함 등과 관련된 내용으로 구성된다. 도가와 연금술에 속한 내용은 도사들의 행적, 예언, 연금술, 등선 등을 활용한 이야기들이지만 불교적인 내용도 포함되어 있다. 저승과 재생에 속한 내용은 불교의 내세 관념이나 인과응보적인 요소를 포괄한다. 귀신이 나타났다거나 빙의되고 저승에서 귀환하여 재생한 사람들의 이야기는 신기하기도 하지만 현실과 비슷한 상황을 빗대거나 교훈을 주고자 하는 의도가 보인다. 인물 관련 일화는 劉義慶의 《世說新語》와 비슷한 형식을 보이는 작품들도 있어서 志人小說과 근접해 보인다. 인물 간의 비교, 전대 유명인물에 대한 평가, 일반 백성의 행적 등을 골고루 서술하고 있기 때문에 작가의 광대한 관심사를 알 수 있다. 풍자와 기이함에 속한 내용은 과장적인 서술, 초자연적인 현상, 민간 신앙과 평범한 백성들의 일상까지 포괄한다. 이러한 작품들은 기이하고 괴상한 내용을 함유하고 있기 때문에 志怪小說의 전통을 계승했다고도 할 수 있다. 《東坡志林》의 <異事>篇에는 蘇軾의 작가 의식이 여실히 반영되어 있다. 그는 사회 다방면에 대한 관심을 표명하면서 그 지식을 활용했고, 회고를 통한 자아성찰과 비평을 하고 있으며 절망적인 상황 속에서도 희망적이고 유머 감각을 유지하고 있다고 하겠다. 따라서 《東坡志林》의 <異事>篇은 소식의 다채로운 작품 세계를 표현했고, 소설적 요소가 물씬 풍겨나는 특징적인 작품이라 평가할 수 있겠다.

영문 초록

This paper was studied for the purpose of closely examining the composition and contents of the xylographic book and Yi-Shi section of Dong-Po-Zhi-Lin. Su Shi(蘇軾) was known for his excellent writing skills from an early age, and he created more mature works by accumulating various experiences through exile due to the struggles of both old and new parties. Dong-Po-Zhi-Lin is nicknamed Zhi-Lin(志林), Dong-Po-Shou-Ze(東坡手擇), and Dan-Er-Shou-Ze(儋耳手擇). It is estimated that Su shi created the work for about 20 years from the period of exile in huangzhou(黃州) to the period of exile in Hainan(海南). There are 1st, 12th, and 5th editions of the Dong-Po-Zhi-Lin. The 12th volume is known to have many errors, and five copies that supplement the overall contents are reported as common copies. The Dong-Po-Zhi-Lin was distributed in Korea and Japan, and was newly created with manuscripts, woodblocks, and woodblock prints. In view of this distribution situation, Su Shi’s Dong-Po-Zhi-Lin seems to have had a significant impact on Korean and Japanese literature. Dong-Po-Zhi-Lin’s Yi-Shi section has quite a lot of parts where you can feel a novel pleasure using bizarre and unique materials. The Yi-shi section consists of contents related to Taoism and Alchemy, the underworld and regeneration, stories related to characters, satire and eccentricity, etc. The contents of Taoism and Alchemy are stories using the actions, prophecies, alchemy of monks, but they also contain Buddhist content. The content belonging to the underworld and regeneration encompasses the elements of Buddhism’s afterlife or causal retribution. The stories of people who appeared or were possessed and returned from the underworld are fascinating, but they are intended to compare or teach a lesson similar to reality. Some works related to characters have a form similar to Liu Yiqing(劉義慶)’s the New Account of Tales of the World(世說新語), so they seem close to in the Describing Men(志人). The artist’s vast interests can be seen because it describes the comparisons between characters, evaluations of famous figures from previous times, and the actions of ordinary people. The content of satire and eccentricity encompasses exaggerated narratives, supernatural phenomena, folk beliefs, and everyday lives of ordinary people. It can be said that these works have inherited the tradition of Mystery Novels(志怪小說) because they contain bizarre contents. Dong-Po-Zhi-Lin’s Yi-Shi section clearly reflects Su Shi’s writer’s consciousness. He used his knowledge while expressing interest in various aspects of society, self-reflection and criticism through retrospective, and maintains a hopeful and sense of humor in desperate situations. Therefore, the Dong-Po-Zhi-Lin’s Yi-Shi section expresses Su Shi’s colorful world of work and can be evaluated as a characteristic work that exudes novel elements.
