국문 초록

본 연구는 폴 리쾨르의 철학에서 존재론의 중요성을 논하는 데 그 목적이 있다. 리쾨르는 대화의 철학자로 알려져 있듯이 다양한 철학 담론에 참여하였다. 그의 철학에서 “확실하지 않은 존재의 있음”으로 요약될 수 있는 존재론은 모든 담화에서 등장하는 요소로 꼽힌다. 그러나 ‘알 수 없음’의 해체적 의미와 ‘있음’의 근대적 의미가 결합하는 것처럼 보이는 그의 존재론은 일면 어느 한 편에 편중하여 그의 글을 독해하게 만드는 위험이 있다. 리쾨르의 특징적인 존재론은 그의 초기 철학인 「의지의 철학」 3부작을 통해 최초로 장엄하게 전개된다. 근대를 극복하는 한편, 실존주의에 편승하지도 않는 그의 독창성은 그를 살아있는 철학자로 불리게 한다. 「의지의 철학」은 리쾨르가 대화를 시도하고 있는 다양한 분야에 밀려 상대적으로 그 연구가 과거에 머물러 있다. 그러나 리쾨르의 철학이 여전히 의의가 있고 그가 새로운 철학적 성찰의 장을 열고 있다는 점에서 그의 초기 저작에서 논의되고 있는 존재론에 관한 통찰은 다시 짚어볼 필요가 있다. 게다가 리쾨르가 자신의 철학적 지평을 여는 위치에서 거듭 ‘존재-질문’을 재차 던지고 있다는 것으로부터 본 연구는 가장 리쾨르적인 연구일 수 있다. 「의지의 철학」을 통해 기술되는 리쾨르의 존재론은 그의 철학이 동시대 다른 철학들과 결정적인 차이를 보이는 지점이다. 리쾨르는 「의지의 철학」을 통해 근대적 주체의 확실성을 효과적으로 해체한다. 이는 하이데거가 세계-내-존재를 통해 존재를 해체했던 것과는 다른 방식이다. 그러나 리쾨르는 존재를 해체하는 자리에서 세계-내-존재로 퇴보하지 않는다. 그는 메타-담론의 자리로 올라가 다시 ‘존재-물음’을 던짐으로써 오히려 실존주의의 우위에 서는 현재성을 확보한다. 그렇기에 탈구조주의의 사조는 리쾨르의 철학을 해체하지 못했으며, 그렇기에 리쾨르가 그토록 방대한 영역에서 대화의 장에 참여할 수 있었던 것이다. 이런 점에서 본 연구는 「의지의 철학」을 통해 리쾨르의 존재론 다시 검토해보고, 거기서 드러나는 그의 존재론이 그의 철학 전반에 걸쳐, 그리고 작금의 철학적 성찰의 장에 미치도록 중요한 위치를 차지할 수밖에 없음을 밝힌다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to discuss the importance of ontology in Paul Ricoeur's philosophy. As Ricoeur is known as a philosopher of dialogue, he participated in various philosophical discourses. In his philosophy, ontology, which can be summarized as “the existence of an uncertain existence,” is counted as an element that appears in all discourses. However, his ontology, which seems to combine the deconstructive meaning of 'unknown' and the modern meaning of 'existence', has a risk of making his writings biased to one side or the other. Ricoeur's characteristic ontology is magnificently developed for the first time in his trilogy of 「Philosophy of the Will」, his early philosophy. While overcoming modernity, his originality of not taking advantage of existentialism makes him a living philosopher. The study of 「Philosophy of the Will」 is relatively in the past due to the various fields that Ricoeur is trying to talk about. However, given that Ricoeur's philosophy is still significant and that he is opening a new field of philosophical reflection, it is necessary to revisit the insights on ontology discussed in his early writings. In addition, this study can be the most Ricoeur-like study, given that Ricoeur repeatedly asks the 'existence-question' in the position of opening his own philosophical horizon. Ricoeur's ontology described in 「Philosophy of the Will」 is a point where his philosophy shows a decisive difference from other philosophies of the same time. Ricoeur effectively dismantles the certainty of the modern subject through 「Philosophy of the Will」. This is different from Heidegger's way of deconstructing existence through being-in-the-world. However, Ricoeur does not regress to being-in-the-world from the place of deconstructing existence. He rises to the seat of meta-discourse and throws the 'existence-question' again, rather securing the presentness that stands above existentialism. That is why the trend of post-structuralism did not dismantle Ricoeur's philosophy, and that is why Ricoeur was able to participate in the arena of dialogue in such a vast area. In this respect, this study reexamines Ricoeur's ontology through 「Philosophy of the Will」, and reveals that his ontology revealed there cannot but occupy an important position throughout his philosophy and in the current field of philosophical reflection.
