국문 초록

본 연구는 아랍 고전 문학 『칼릴라와 딤나』의 한국어 번역서 다섯권의 주변 텍스트 전략을 분석했다. 주변 텍스트는 본문과 함께 한 권의 책을 구성하는 요소이다. 번역서에서의 주변 텍스트는 번역된 텍스트를 둘러싸고 있는 표지, 저자 소개, 작품 설명, 번역사의 해설, 각주 등으로, 독자의 번역된 텍스트 수용에 직접적인 영향을 미친다. 따라서 번역사는 작품 설명이나 해설, 독자의 관심을 끌기 위한 문구 활용 등 다양한 주변 텍스트 전략을 택하게 된다. 여전히 한국에서는 아랍 문화가 낯선 문화로 인식되고 있어서 주변 텍스트는 작가와 독자 사이의 문화적 거리를 좁혀주는 중요한 공간이다. 번역서에서 주변 텍스트가 차지하는 중요한 역할과 기능에도 불구하고 아랍 문학 한국어 번역서의 주변 텍스트에 대한 연구를 찾기 어렵다. 본 연구는 『칼릴라와 딤나』의 한국어 번역서에 나타난 주변 텍스트를 비교 분석하여, 아랍 고전 문학을 번역할 때 번역사가 채택해야 하는 주변 텍스트 전략을 제시한다.

영문 초록

This study analyzed peritext strategies in five Korean translations of the Arabic classical literature Kalīlah wa-Dimnah. Peritexts are elements that surround the main text within a book, and peritexts in translations include the cover, introduction to the author, description of the work, commentary of the translator, footnotes, etc. The peritext is considered a component of a book with translated text, having a direct impact on the acceptance of the translated text. Therefore, translators employ various peritext strategies, including supplementary explanations, phrases to attract readers' attention, and so on. Unfortunately, Arabic culture in Korea is perceived as unfamiliar. Thus, the peritext serves as an important space that narrows the cultural distance between the author and the reader. Despite the significant role and function of peritexts in translation, there is no research on the peritext of Korean translation of Arabic literature. This study compares the strategies presented in the peritexts in each Korean translation of Kalīlah wa-Dimnah, providing peritext strategies that translators should adopt when translating Arabic classical literature.
