유치원 교사가 인식한 유아시민교육의 실제와 방향성

국문 초록

본 연구는 유아시민교육의 실행 주체인 현장 유치원 교사가 인식한 시민교육 실제와 실행 방향성에 대해 알아보는 데 그 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 공립유치원 교사 12명을 대상으로 FGI는 2021년 7월 23일부터 2021년 8월 9일까지 5차례 FGI를 실시하고 Creswell(2007)이 제시한 귀납적 나선형 질적 자료 분석법에 따라 자료를 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 첫째, 유치원 교사가 인식한 유아시민교육의 실제는 ‘계획하지 않았으나 누리과정 안에 포함된 교육’, ‘인성교육, 기본생활습관교육의 형태로 실행되는 교육’, ‘현재의 시민인 유아를 미래의 시민으로 성장시키는데 필요한 교육’, ‘공동선을 추구하는 일상생활교육’으로 나타났다. 둘째, 유아시민교육의 수행의 방향성은 ‘인성교육, 기본생활습관교육과 통합하되 교사의 자율권을 보장하는 방향으로’, ‘유아가 학급 주체로 참여하고 책임지는 민주적 교실 만들기로’, ‘질서와 규칙을 통해 안전을 확보하되 민주적 방식으로’, ‘교사의 인식 제고에서부터 부모교육, 나아가 민주적 사회문화 형성까지’로 나타났다. 이를 바탕으로 유아를 위한 시민교육과 인성교육 및 기본생활습관교육과의 개념적 관계성을 토대로 시민교육 실제의 문제점과 방향을 논하고, 교사들이 인식하는 시민교육 실행 방향성의 의미에 대해 논의하였다.

영문 초록

This purpose of this study is to investigate practices and direction on citizenship education for young children recognized by preschool teacher as a agent of practice. To do this, data were collected from 12 preschool teachers using 5 times focus group interviews, from July 23 to August 9, 2021 and analyzed data according to the inductive spiral qualitative data analysis method presented by Creswell (2007). The findings showed that first, preschool teachers’ perception on practices of citizenship education for young children were as follows: ‘unplanned but included in Nuri curriculum’, ‘implemented in the form of character education and basic life habit education’, ‘develop children who are today’s citizen into citizen of the future’, ‘daily life education seeking common good.’ The second, preschool teacher’s perception on direction of practices of citizenship education for young children were as follows: ‘guaranteeing teachers' autonomy while integrating character education and basic life habit education’, ‘creating a democratic classroom where children participate and are responsible’, ‘secure safety through order and rules, but in a democratic way’, ‘from raising teachers' awareness to parents education, and further forming a democratic social culture.’ The findings of this study give some discussion about that challenges and directions of citizenship education practices based on conceptual relations between citizenship, character education and basic life habit education. Also, meaning to direction of citizenship education practices perceived by preschool teachers was discussed.
