국문 초록

김정은 시대 북한은 갑작스러운 지도자의 교체에도 음악예술에서 획기적인 변화를 보여주고 있다. 본 연구는 북한의 음악예술 중에서 ‘대공연’의 역할과 기능에 대하여 파악하는 것을 목표로 한다. 연구를 위하여 북한문헌과 공연영상 분석을 통하여 ‘대공연’의 개념을 정리했으며, 대공연의 역사적 고찰(1948-2022)을 통하여 김정은 시대 ‘대공연’의 변화와 특징을 분석했다. 연구결과 ‘대공연’은 공연의 전체 종목과 구성 요소들(합창, 관현악, 독창, 연주, 설화, 무용, 방창, 집단체조, 무대배경 등)이 유기적으로 결합하여 하나의 서사에 의하여 진행되는 음악무용종합예술공연이며 북한에만 존재하는 공연형식이다. 대공연은 서사구조는 김일성 시대에는 수령의 항일혁명역사로 시작하여 김정일 시대는 수령우상화와 선군위업을 받드는 서사로서 변화하였다. 그러나 김정은 시대 대공연은 예술인들의 집단성보다는 개인의 예술성과 자율성, 공연형식의 독창성을 강조하는 이미지를 연출하며, 수령과 당 보다는 국가를 강조하는 서사로 변화되고 있다. 김정은 시대 대공연은 ‘김정은의 거대한 종교-공동체를 성스럽게 하는 의례의 기능을 수행한다. 본 연구는 북한예술에 관한 연구에서 대공연의 역사를 처음으로 연구했다는 데 의미가 있으며, 대공연에 대한 분석을 통하여 김정은 시대 음악정치의 새로운 패러다임을 고찰하는데 의미가 있다.

영문 초록

In the Kim Jong-un era, North Korea is showing groundbreaking changes in the art of music despite the sudden change of leader. This study aims to understand the role and function of 'Grand Performance' in North Korea's musical arts. For the study, the concept of 'Grand Performance' was organized through analysis of North Korean literature and performance videos, and the changes and characteristics of 'Grand Performance' in the Kim Jong-un era were analyzed through historical consideration of the Grand Performance (1948-2022). As a result of the study, 'Grand Performance' is a musical dance that organically combines all events and components of a performance (chorus, orchestra, solo, performance, folktale, dance, singing, group gymnastics, stage background, etc.) It is a comprehensive art performance and is a form of performance that exists only in North Korea. The grand performance of the Kim Jong-un era produced an image that emphasized individual artistry and autonomy, and the originality of the form of performance rather than the collective nature of artists, and was changing into a narrative that emphasized the nation rather than the leader and party. The narrative structure of Grand Performance began with the anti-Japanese revolutionary history of the leader during the Kim Il-sung era, and changed into a narrative that idolizes the leader and honors the Songun feat in the Kim Jong-il era. However, the grand performance of the Kim Jong-un era creates an image that emphasizes individual artistry and autonomy, and the originality of the form of performance rather than the collective nature of artists, and is changing into a narrative that emphasizes the nation rather than the leader and party. The grand performance of the Kim Jong-un era ‘performs the function of a ritual that consecrates Kim Jong-un’s huge religious community. This study is meaningful in that it was the first study of the grand performance in the field of North Korean art, and the research is meaningful in considering the new paradigm of musical politics in the Kim Jong-un era through the analysis of the grand performance.
