국문 초록

병적 도박은 지속적이고 반복적으로 나타나는 부적응적인 도박행위로 개인, 가족, 혹은 직업적 기능을 붕괴시키는 질환으로 개인 수준의 병리적 문제를 일으킬 수 있을 뿐만 아니라 가족과 사회 전반에까지 부정적인 문제를 양산할 수 있다. 인터넷 도박은 오프라인 도박이 인터넷을 매개로 한 가상공간에서 이루어지는 도박이다. 도박 환경은 최근 수 년 동안 변해왔고 인터넷을 이용한 도박은 도박에 더 접근 가능하게 만들고 언제 어디서든 도박을 할 수 있는 기회를 제공하며 인터넷 도박 사이트 수와 매출액이 세계적 으로 매년 증가하고 있다. 인터넷 환경과 도박과 관련 문제의 발생 혹은 악화 사이의 연관성에 있어서 방향성을 단정할 수는 없음에도 인터넷이라는 매개체가 오프라인에서 보다 문제 도박에 더 기여하고, 문제 인터넷 도박자는 문제 오프라인 도박자들에 비해 더 젊고 더 심각한 도박 문제를 가지고 있는 등의 유의한 차이를 보고하는 연구 결과들이 있다. 그리고 문제 인터넷 도박자는 문제 비인터넷 도박자에 비해 도움을 구하는 행동을 적게 하는 경향을 나타냈다. 그리고 청소년들 사이에서 인터넷 사용이 확산되면서 인터넷 도박 행동이 급격히 증가하고 있고 인터넷 도박을 하는 청소년들은 문제성 인터넷 사용과 인터넷 중독적 행동을 발전시킬 잠재적 위험에 처해있다. 인터넷 도박과 연관된 위험성에 대한 관심이 아직 부족한 실정이다. 인터넷 도박의 잠재적 문제점에 대한 대중의 인식을 증가시키려는 노력이 필요하며 문제 인터넷 도박자들에게 특화된 치료 및 예방적 계획이 요구된다.

영문 초록

Pathological gambling is persistent and recurrent maladaptive gambling behavior that disrupts personal, family, and vocational pursuits, and causes not only problems of personal level but also of family up to the society at large. Internet gambling is gambling mediated by internet in the cyberspace. Environment for gambling has been changed for several years. Internet gambling enabled people starting gambling more easily, and provided greater chance for being addicted to gambling via gambling websites. Thereby, total market and websites for internet gambling has been grown up in recent years. Although there is no clear relationship between the gambling environment and development of problems related to gambling, gambling behavior tends to be more problematic by internet gambling than by offline gambling. In addition, internet gamblers are younger and have more serious gambling problems than offline gamblers. Problem internet gamblers less tend to seek help than offline gamblers. As the adolescents more popularly use internet, internet gambling behavior has been abruptly increased, and adolescent internet gamblers are at the risk of developing internet use problem and internet addictive behaviors. There is little attention to the risks related to internet gambling. Works for increasing public awareness about potential problems of internet gambling and special treatment and preventive plans for problem internet gambling are necessary.
