(Purpose) The purpose of this study is to explore the impact of servant leadership on job satisfaction as well as the moderating role of generational differences in the relationship between servant leadership and job satisfaction. (Design/methodology/approach) In this study, we used the “2021 Public Employee Perception Survey” provided by the Korean Institute of Public Administration that includes a sample of 4,133 public employees drawn from Korean central and local governments. Also, we employed ordinary least square regression models to test servant leadership-job satisfaction relationship and the joint effect between servant leadership and MZ generation on job satisfaction. (Findings) We found servant leadership had a positive impact on job satisfaction, and that positive influence was stronger on the MZ generation than the older generation. (Research implications or Originality) Practical implications derived from this study are as follows: First, job satisfaction is a significant factor for both the older generation and the MZ generation. Therefore, systematic education, enhancement of leadership competencies, and budget expansion related to the manifestation of servant leadership within organizations are necessary. Second, it is essential to create a consensus on the importance of enhancing job satisfaction among MZ members within organizational society. Third, a leader's mentality of delicate consideration is more crucial than leadership skills.
