국문 초록

수학 학습 과정에서 학생들은 기호를 표현하고 해석하는 활동을 경험한다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 활동을 수학기호의 기호화와 해석화라 하고, Peirce의 삼원적 기호 모델을 토대로, 학생들이 “키가 크면 발도 크다”라는 대상체에서 상관관계에 대한 해석을 할 수 있도록 표현체를 구성하는 과정을 분석하였다. 영재교육원에 재학 중인 중학생들은 통계 자료를 정리하고 자신만의 기호를 만든 후 전체 학급 토론을 통해 규약적 기호가 무엇인지 학습하였다. 그 과정에서 학생들은 교사의 의도에 포함되지 않았던 세부적인 기호화와 해석화를 이행하고, 기존 기호형판에 의존했으며, 자발적으로 반성의 해석화를 하였다. 수학 학습에서 기호화와 해석화가 지속적으로 일어나는 것을 볼 때, 수학 학습 지도에서는 수학기호의 표현과 의미가 함께 구성될 수 있도록 하는 기호의 사용과 해석에 대한 교사의 안내 그리고 해석체와 표현체의 협상과 규약화가 이루어질 수 있도록 하는 학생들의 노력이 필요할 것이다.

영문 초록

In the learning of mathematics, students experience the semiotic activities of repre-senting and interpreting mathematical signs. We called these activities as the representing and interpreting of mathematical signs. On the foundation of Peirce's three elements of the sign, we analysed that students const-ructed the representamen to interpret the concept of correlation as for the object, “as one is taller, one's size of foot is larger”. 4 middle school students who participated the gifted center in Seoul, arranged the statistical data, constructed their own representamen, and then learned the conventional signs as a result of the whole class discussion. In the process, students performed the detailed representing and interpreting of signs, depended on the templates of the known signs, and interpreted the process voluntarily. As the semiotic activities were taken place in this way, it was needed that mathematics teacher guided the representing and inter-preting of mathematical signs so that the representation and the meaning of the sign were constructed each other, and that students endeavored to get the negotiation of the interpretants and the representamens, and to reach the conventional representing.
