영화 ≪미나리≫에 병존하는 신성(神性)과 인간성

국문 초록

본 논문은 골든글로브 시상식에서 작품상 후보에 올랐으나 외국어영화상을 받아 ‘인종차별’ 논란을 빚은 영화, 배우 윤여정의 탁월한 연기로 여우조연상을 받아 세간의 이목을 끈 화제의 영화≪미나리≫에 대해 탐구한다. ≪미나리≫에 사용된 OST들은 영화의 이야기 구조와 평행을 이루며 음악적 의미구조를 만들어내는데 이를 밝히는 것이 바로 본 논문의 목표이다. 논문은 현대적 디아스포라의 애환을 담은 수작 ≪미나리≫를 기독교적 세계관을 통해 깊이있게 읽어낼 것을 시도한다. 제이콥의 가족을 향한 신의 섭리가 거시적 ‘아멘종지’의 프레임 속에드러나 있음을 주장하는 본 논문은 영화에 사용된 OST들이 신성(神性)을 상징하는 검은 건반조성(D -중심성)과 인간성(人間性)을 상징하는 흰 건반 조성(C-중심성) 사이의 대립 구도를 형성하며 ‘근본 축’ 위에서 함축적으로 나타남으로써 내러티브를 상기시키는 소환적 기능을 수행하고있음을 주장한다. 이외에도 논문은 극의 중심인물 ‘할머니’의 불안정한 정체성이 가족의 구성원으로 온전히 자리를 잡아가는 과정을 음악적으로 탁월하게 그려내는 과정, 그리고 나약한 한 인간이 겪는 고군분투의 과정을 성공적으로 담아낸 OST들의 역할에 대해 분석하였다. 다소 밋밋하지만, 완성도 높은 작품 ≪미나리≫가 갖는 음악적 차원의 의미 구조를 해석학적으로 통찰하였다.

영문 초록

This paper explores a topical film Minari, which has been nominated for Best Picture at the Golden Globe Awards but instead won the Best Foreign Language Film and, in which Yoon Yeo-jeong received the Best Supporting Actress Award for her outstanding performance. The goal of this paper is to reveal the musical structure in parallel with the narrative structure of the film. The paper attempts to read in depth the masterpiece Minari containing sorrows of the modern diaspora through a Christian worldview. In the paper asserting that God’s providence for Jacob’s family is revealed in the macroscopic frame of “Amen cadence,” I showed that the OSTs form a contrast between black-key (D -centricity) and white-key (C-centricity) pieces symbolizing divinity and humanity respectively. I claim that such contrast vividly summons a function to remind the narrative by implicitly appearing above what I call “fundamental axis.” I also analyzed the OSTs’ process of musical depiction in which unstable identity of Grandmother becomes fully established as a member of the family, and the struggle of a weak human being is portrayed. I illuminated the meaning structure with hermeneutical insight into the musical dimension of Minari, a rather flat but high-quality work.
