지도교수의 지도유형에 따른 잠재집단 분류와 대학원생의 만족도 및 학업성과와의 관계

국문 초록

본 연구는 지도교수의 대학원생 연구지도 유형에 따라 잠재집단을 분류하고, 분류된 잠재집단별 대학원생의 교육만족도 및 학업성과에 차이가 있는지 규명하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 국내 일반대학원에 재학 중인 대학원생 307명의 설문 응답 자료를 토대로 잠재프로파일 분석을 실시하였다. 분석 결과, 지도교수의 지도유형에 따라 ‘전반적 고수준 지원’, ‘중수준 학문적 지원’, 그리고 ‘저수준 학문적 지원’의 세 잠재집단이 도출되었다. 분류된 세 집단은 교육만족도 및 학업성과 모두에서 통계적으로 유의한 차이를 보였다. 집단 간 차이검증 결과, ‘전반적 고수준 지원’ 집단은 나머지 두 집단에 비해 교육만족도 및 학업성과 모두에서 통계적으로 유의하게 높은 점수를 나타냈다. ‘중수준 학문적 지원’ 집단과 ‘저수준 학문적 지원’ 집단은 두 결과변수 모두에서 유의한 차이를 보이지 않았다. 이 같은 연구결과를 바탕으로 대학원 교육과 학생지도에 대한 시사점을 논의하고, 향후 연구 방향을 제시하였다.

영문 초록

While literature on graduate education in Western countries has long regarded the advising relationship as critical for student development and success, far less attention has been paid to graduate advising relationship in the context of South Korea. Using a latent profile analysis approach, the present study examines the ways in which Korean graduate students (N=307) are classified based on the types of support provided by their advisors and how such classification is related to student outcomes such as graduate satisfaction and perceived academic achievement. Results reveal three distinct latent profiles among students: “overall balanced high support,” “moderate academic support,” and “low academic support.” Findings also indicate that students in the “overall balanced high support” profile had significantly higher levels of graduate satisfaction and achievement compared to students in the other two profiles. Significant difference was not found in either outcome between students in the “moderate academic support” and “low academic support” profiles. These findings provide initial evidence of heterogeneity across graduate students in terms of advisor support and related outcomes in the Korean context. Implications for research and practice are then discussed.
