1920년대 조선 사진첩에 대한 일고찰

국문 초록

조선의 풍광은 1922년과 1927년, 그리고 1933년에 걸쳐 총 세 차례 발행되었으나 본고에서는 이 중 가장 먼저 발행된 1922년의조선의 풍광에 대하여 살펴보았다. 1922년도의 조선의 풍광은 이후의 것들이 조선총독부철도국에서 발행된 것과는 달리 남만주철도주식회사 경성관리국에서 발행되었는데 무엇보다 이들의 공통점은 발행의 주체가 철도국이었다는 데 있다. 특히 1922년도의 조선의 풍광은 당시 조선 각지의 철도 개통으로 인하여 철도역사와 인근 역사 주변의 호텔들이 건설되면서 전국의 관광객들을 위한 홍보자료가 필요하였으며 이를 위해 철도국은 철도연선 주변의 명소를 중심으로 한 사진첩을 발행한 것이다. 조선의 풍광의 또 하나의 특징이라고 한다면 평양 기생의 전근대적 모습과 함께 조선호텔, 평양철도호텔 등의 서양식 건물을 포함하여 서양인들이 인천 월미도에서 해수욕을 하거나 겨울 한강에서 스케이트를 타는 등 당시 조선인들의 모습과는 다른 관점에서 사진이 포착되고 있다는 것이다. 사진첩의 구성을 보면 먼저 불국사나 강서대묘, 경회루, 금강산 등의 한국의 유적과 자연을 담은 1920년대 조선의 모습을 잘 표현하고 있다. 그리고 사진 겉표지와 목차에 일본어와 영어를 병기하고 있는데 이것은 조선의 풍광과 비슷한 시기에 발행된 1921년의 사진첩 조선이 병합 이후 10여 년간 제국 일본의 조선 통치 성과를 기록하고 선전하기 위한 목적으로 제작된 것과 마찬가지로 일본인과 함께 서양인들도 독자층으로 겨냥하여 제작한 것이라 할 수 있다.

영문 초록

Trip in Chosen was published three times in total in 1922, 1927, and 1933, but this paper examined Trip in Chosen in 1922, the first of which was published in 1922. Unlike those issued by the Railway Bureau of the Japanese Government-General of Korea in 1922, the Trip in Chosen was issued by the Gyeongseong Management Bureau of Nammanju Railway Co., Ltd., and most of all, their common feature was that the subject of issuance was the Railway Bureau. In particular, Trip in Chosen in 1922 required promotional materials for tourists across the country as hotels around railway stations and nearby stations were built due to the opening of railroads in Joseon at the time, and for this purpose, the railway station issued photo albums centered on attractions around the railway line. Another characteristic of Trip in Chosen is that photos are taken from a different perspective from those of Koreans at the time, including Western-style buildings such as Chosun Hotel and Pyongyang Railway Hotel, bathing in the sea or skating on the Han River in Incheon. Looking at the composition of the photo album, first of all, it expresses the appearance of Joseon in the 1920s, which contains Korean relics such as Bulguksa Temple, Gangseo Cemetery, Gyeonghoeru Pavilion, and Geumgangsan Mountain. Also, Japanese and English are written on the cover of the photo and the table of contents. The reason for this is that the 1921 Joseon Photo Album, published around the same time as the Trip in Chosen, was designed to record and promote the achievements of imperial Japan’s rule of Joseon for more than 10 years after the annexation, targeting Westerners as well as Japanese.
