국문 초록

북한의 벼루는 조선시대 한반도 벼루를 대표할 정도로 높은 위상과 많은 벼루 산지를 보유하고 있었지만 현재 북한은 위원연 외에는 생산이 중단된 듯하다. 그나마 현재 북한에서 생산되고 있는 현대 위원연은 옛날 조선 위원연의 멋진 모습을 찾아볼 수 없다. 본고는 고문헌을 통해 나타난 조선시대 우리나라 벼루사에서 매우 중요한 역할을 한 북한 벼루의 위상을 먼저 조명하고, 다음으로는 북한의 유명 벼루 산지인 선천연, 곽산연, 위원연, 희천연, 두만강연, 해주연, 대동강연 등의 역사와 벼루의 형제, 특성 등에 대해 논의하고 있다. 아울러 본고는 그간 우리의 민속 석공예 분야에서 벼루가 홀시되어온 안타까운 상황을 지적하고, 단순한 민속공예품이 아니라 문방구로서 선비정신을 반영한 벼루가 더 이상 홀시되어서는 안 되며, 남북한이 활발한 공예교류를 통해 사라져가는 전통 문화의 맥을 되살려야 함을 역설하고 있다.

영문 초록

During the Joseon Dynasty North Korean inkstones had a high status and many inkstone production areas on the Korean Peninsula, but currently inkstones production in North Korea seems to have stopped except for the Wiwon(위원) inkstone. Moreover, the modern Wiwon inkstone, which is currently being produced in North Korea, cannot be compared with the splendid appearance of the old Chosun Wiwon inkstone. This paper first researches the status of North Korean inkstones, which played a very important role in Korean inkstone history, as revealed through old documents, and then examines famous North Korean inkstone production areas such as Seoncheonyeon, Gwaksanyeon, Wiwonyeon, Heecheonyeon, Tumangangyeon, and Haejuyeon. It discusses the history and shape characteristics of these inkstones. In addition, this paper points out the unfortunate situation in which inkstones have been neglected in the field of our folk stone crafts, and inkstones, which are not just folk crafts but reflect the noble spirit of writers, should no longer be neglected, and it emphasizes the need to revive the activation of traditional culture.
