국문 초록

바울은 여러 서신의 적용부에서 사랑이 가장 중요한 덕성임을 강조했다(롬 12:9; 고전 8:1-3; 13:4-7; 갈 5:22-24; 엡 5:2; 골 3:14 등). 바울은 특히 두 구절에서 사랑이 율법을 성취하는 수단임을 언급하며 이 덕성의 중요성을 율법과 결부시킨다(롬 13:9-10; 갈 5:14). 본고는 이들 중 갈라디아서 5:14에서의 율법과 사랑의 관계를 논한다. 갈라디아서 5:14은 기본적으로 갈라디아서 전체 문맥의 영향 아래에 있으며 특히 뒤 따르는 6장 2절과 문맥적, 어휘적으로 긴밀하게연결된다. 따라서 본고는 갈라디아서 5:14, 6:2, 그리고 이들과 관련된 문맥에 대한 주해를 통해 바울이 말하는 율법과 사랑에 대해 연구하고자 한다. 본 연구자의 주요 논지는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 바울이비록 이웃 사랑을 명한 구약의 율법(레 19:18)을 갈라디아서 5장 14 절에서 인용했지만, 여기서 바울은 ‘이웃 사랑’을 율법과 구분되는원리로 인식하였다. 즉, 바울은 갈라디아서 5장 14절에서 원문인 레위기 19장 18절의 의도를 변용하였다. 둘째, 갈라디아서 6:2의 ‘그리스도의 법’은 사실상 앞선 ‘이웃 사랑’(갈 5:14)의 재진술이며, 따라서 ‘그리스도의 법’ 역시 율법과 구분된 원리로 보는 것이 적합하다. 본고는 이를 위해 우선 갈라디아서 5:14에서 사랑이 어떻게 율법과 구분되는지를 문법적, 어휘적, 문맥적으로 검토할 것이다. 또한본고는 “그리스도의 법”(갈 6:2)에 관한 학자들의 다양한 견해를 간단히 검토한 후, 본 연구자가 지지하는 견해에 비판적인 학자들의논거를 재반박하는 방식으로 본고의 논지를 개진해나갈 것이다.

영문 초록

Paul emphasizes love as the virtue of foremost importance in many parts of his epistles (Rom 12:9; 1 Cor 8:1-3; 13:4-7; Gal 5:22-24; Eph 5:2; Col 3:14, etc.). Notably in two parts of the New Testament, Paul connects the significance of this virtue to the law (Rom 13:9-10; Gal 5:14). Out of these passages, this paper focuses on Galatians 5:14 to examine the relationship between the law and love found in this verse. Galatians 5:14 is basically under the influence of the entire context of Galatians and is closely connected to Galatians 6:2 both contextually and lexically. Based on such an observation, this paper will study the meaning of the law and love as defined by Paul mainly through the exegesis of Galatians 5:14, Galatians 6:2 and the context of these verses. What I would like to mainly point out in this paper are as follows: First, although Paul alludes to the Old Testament law that commands the love of neighbor (Lev 19:18) in Galatians 5:14, Paul views “the love of neighbor” in Galatians as a principle that is distinguished from the law. In other words, Paul uses Leviticus 19:18 in Galatians 5:14 with a different intention from that of the original Old Testament text. Second, as “the law of Christ” in Galatians 6:2 is, in fact, the restatement of the “love of neighbor” of Galatians 5:14, “the law of Christ” should also be seen as a principle that is differentiated from the law. To validate these arguments, this paper will demonstrate how “the love of neighbor” in Galatians 5:14 is distinguished from the law through the grammatical, lexical and contextual analyses of this verse and its context. In addition, this paper will briefly review different opinions of scholars regarding “the law of Christ” (Gal 6:2) and then prove the point of this paper mainly by refuting the critics of the viewpoint this paper supports.
